Volume 2 Chapter 20: Magic Is So Handy
Volume 2 Chapter 20: Magic Is So Handy
"I'm making something that has never been seen before!" Keith smiled. Kreye stated there wasn't any sugar in this world. It was time to surprise them all.
"That's a bold statement." William laughed.
"Can we try it?" Sophia questioned, interested in what he was making.
"Sure." Keith took some spoons and dipped them in slightly, coating the spoon. He wasn't going to give too much. When the two tasted it, they were surprised.
This was a taste they had never tried before!
"It's sweet like an apple, right?" Keith smiled.
"Mmhmm." "But it tastes different than it." William noticed it was different from the apple.
"I used this to make it." Keith picked up the beet. When Sophia saw it, "Oh, those are pearl beets,"
"Pearl beets?"
"They got that name for its size and shine like a pearl. But I have never seen one so big," Sophia was surprised.
"Also, I'm going to make it into a solid," Keith stated as he poured the mixtures into some square bowls. I should ask Orin to make some baking sheets. It would have been easier to dry it like this.
"How long will it take to finish?" William questioned.
"2 weeks."
"2 weeks!" Everyone was shocked when Keith said that. Even the knights who were working were surprised. They were all listening to what Keith said. But two weeks? That was too long!
Keith sighed, "Unless I can get a tool to speed up the process, we will have to wait 2 weeks."
"What kind of tool do you need to make?" Sophia questioned. Whatever Keith needed, she would spend heaven and earth to get it!
"I need something that can take moisture from the molasses, drying it up," Keith stated. A dehydrator would work. But there was no way there was something like that in this world.
"So you need to take the water out to dry it, right?" Sophia questioned.
"Mmhmm." Keith nodded.
"If it's to draw the water out, I can do something like that. Let me show you." Sophia said with a confident smile.
Keith stood beside William, and Sophia started. Mana formed around her arms as she pointed at the bowls.
"!" Keith noticed the water droplets coming out from the molasses! His eyes widened.
William smiled, "Your mother is one of the most talented mages in our Kingdom. Doing something like this is simple for her."
It didn't take long before the sugar was dried up! Sophia smiled, "Is this good?"
"It's perfect! Thank you so much, Mother!" Keith jumped and hugged Sophia. Sophia had the biggest grin of her life.
"Don't mention it. What are you going to do with it?"
"Ahh, I'm going to grind it down." Magic was useful!
Having magic here meant that there was no need to wait on things. Keith focused his mana and created a wind sphere. The dried sugar started to grind down. It didn't take long for it to turn into crystals.
He had three batches. But now he only had one bowl. Keith's smile went off the roof as he held the bowl. Sugar! He finally did it! He had created sugar in his hand!
"This is what you wanted to make?" William stared at the dust inside the bowl.
"Mmhmm! I can cook many dishes now!" Sugar had many uses in cooking, and he was excited. Keith turned to Michael, who was dragging his body. He looked so dead from how he was beaten up.
"Carter, can you go to the kitchen and ask Gus for something like a thin metal sheet?" Since he didn't have a baking sheet, he needed at least some sort of metal.
"Understood." Carter had gotten up from the ground and quickly went into the kitchen. While he did that, Keith rolled up his sleeves,
"Michael, did you finish what I asked you to make?" Keith questioned. Michael nodded,
"We completed it."
"Good." Keith smiled as he looked at the oven. It was an old-school oven that needed to use wood. But it was a great thing to have right now!
"Add some wood into it."
"Gotcha!"
Time to make something good. Cookies! Keith quickly took out some unsalted butter. He placed them into a bowl. Little by little, Keith added the sugar into the bowl. He continued to do this till he mixed the two of them together.
Once those were mixed together, Keith threw in some flour. And mixed them together.
"Young Master, I have brought the sheets you asked for." Carter came back with some sheets.
"Great!" Keith smiled as he took a spoon and scooped out the cookie dough. He made them into a circle and placed them neatly onto the sheets with a happy smile.
"Is the fire ready?" Keith questioned.
"Mmhmm! It's ready!"
Keith nodded as he slid the sheet into the oven. He turned to the others, "We need to wait now."
"Then I will read a book here." Sophia brought out a book.
"Derek, let's practice." "Sure, Father." The field on the right would be perfect for a spar.
Keith laughed. No one wanted to leave. Even the knights and May weren't planning to do this. Leaving meant missing something delicious!
"I will be working on something else." Keith started to get to work again.
