A Flugel's Gacha

Chapter 12: Chapter 12

"You little brat…!" Everlue growled. "Don't think just because you're a Wizard that you'll be able to win against me! Luckily, I knew some upstart people would hire Wizards to try and take me out… That's why I have a certain group always on call to help me out! Vanish Brothers!"

I watched as a set of bookcases slid to the side, revealing the Vanish Brothers from the original show… I got lucky here, in that they weren't replaced with someone stronger.

"Southern Wolves mercenary Guild, is it?" I asked, tilting my head at the sight of the symbol on their clothes… Honestly, had it not been for my research I would have forgotten Mercenary Guilds were even a thing in this world.

Mercenary Guilds were just like Mage Guilds for the most part, but they primarily focused on strengthening their bodies and taking missions that generally required more 'muscle' than magic. The magic they trained in also tended to be 'Mage Killer' Magics, such as the bald once's 'Flame Cooking' which let him re-direct Fire Magic back to sender.

"That's right," the bald one smirked. "Piddly little mages like you can't handle us, who focus on our bodies over magic."

"I'm about to pound you so hard that your mother is going to be jealous," I told them with an amused smile.

"The hell did you say about our mother!?" The taller one growled in anger.

"Deal with him, boys!" Everlue told them. "I want my book back!"

"And I want to be anywhere but dealing with an annoying whiny bitch of a man like you… And yet, here I am," I smirked. "Let's stop the bullshit and get right to it, shall we? Haste."

A red light glowed along my body as I invoked my first time spell, and the world suddenly looked as though it were moving in slow motion… I charged right towards Everlue instead of the Vanish Brothers, and I watched as his eyes widened in surprise as I charged at him.

I watched a magic circle appear and both brothers leap into action. The brothers were trying to stop me while Everlue was trying to retreat, but I wasn't going to let that happen.

"Star Dragon's Steps."

Golden light enveloped my legs, and I kicked off the ground with increased speed, grabbing the front of Everlue's suit and lifting him off the ground. I turned to face the two brothers as my grip on his suit tightened, all three of them in front of me.

"Star Dragon's Grip Strike."

Golden light erupted from my palm, spraying out in a wide arch and hitting all three of them at once, sending them crashing through the doorway that the Vanish Brothers entered from. I felt a smirk crawl onto my lips as the three fumbled about each other as they tried to recover from my attack.

I quickly ducked as a huge arm swiped over me, spinning around and knocking out Virgo's legs from under her. That might have worked normally but my God's eye granted me 360 Degrees Vision, so I was able to dodge her sneak attack.

I looked down at the huge gorilla-esque maid with a smile. "Celestial Spirit representing the Maiden, Virgo," I greeted her. "I have a proposition for you."

The woman's eyes narrowed as she jumped up and stared at me. "Speak," she said in a gruff voice.

"Your master isn't going to last by the time I'm done with him," I told her. "I won't kill him, but he's only good for illegal dealings… If I defeat you and then him, I request permission to take your key from him and forge a contract with you."

She tilted her head for a moment before she nodded, "Accepted," and then she charged right at me, her eyes glowing.

I just smiled as golden light covered my hand… Against another Celestial Spirit Mage I might have been afraid, but Everlue was a poor mage and that in turn made Virgo weaker than she would normally be.

"I'll look forward to that contract," I jumped over her attack, my wings spreading and stabilising me above her body. "Star Dragon's Fist!"

My glowing hand descended, slamming into the top of Virgo's head and sending her crashing down through the ground, all the way to the first floor of the mansion and effectively taking her out of the fight.

I didn't hesitate nor give time for Everlue and the Vanish Brothers to recover, charging at them as I prepared another spell, shooting a grey beam of light at Everlue, "Slow."

The grey beam hit Everlue, and I watched as his body slowed down even more… He even seemed a bit disoriented as he no doubt saw the world around him pick up in speed as everything about him in relation to 'time' was halved.

"Damn you!" The bald brother roared. "Brother, we'll use our Heaven and Earth Technique!"

"Yes!" He nodded in agreement as the shorter one stuck out his weird frying pan.

"Did you really think I would just stand here and let you do that?" I asked rhetorically. "Fast Forward!"

A magic circle appeared on the pan as the taller brother moved to jump on it, and suddenly the pan turned to ashes, causing him to land on the ground instead.

"What-!?"

I smirked and golden light shrouded my hands as I swung my hands in an arc. "Star Dragon's Wingbeat!"

An arc of golden light curved through the air, slamming into the taller brother first, and then sending him crashing into the second brother, countless walls being broken down as they went crashing through Everlue's Mansion before they finally were forced out. They crashed outside, unconscious.

I turned my gaze to Everlue, who was trying to use his Dive Magic to run away… But with Haste speeding me up and Slow making him slow, I caught him by his leg and dragged him out, slamming him onto the ground.

"Gck!" He coughed hard. "You… How are you…?"

"It's not that I'm strong," I told Everlue. "It's that you are weak," I scoffed, my God's Eye scanning him before I saw a magical aura coming off of an item in his jacket pocket.

I fished it out, revealing Virgo's Celestial Spirit Key. "I'll be taking this," I told him as the Key entered my Re-Quip Space. "Don't worry, I'll be taking good care of Virgo from now on…" I grabbed his jacket again and smirked. "Meanwhile, you can enjoy your time in prison, corrupt bastard…"

"Star Dragon's Grip Strike."

"Why did you bring it here?" Kaby asked me as I sat in front of him, Daybreak sitting on the desk between us. "I asked you to destroy it…"

"I was going to," I told him. "However, I thought you deserved to know the truth about this book…" I activated my God's Eye. "This blue eye of mine is my Eye Magic, God's Eye. One of its abilities is to see Magic… Are you aware this book has a spell cast on it?"

"A Spell?" Kaby's wife asked. "Such a thing is possible?"

"Yes," I nodded, looking at the book. "The reason you want to destroy this book… Kemu Zaleon… The name is an Anagram, isn't it? If you rearrange the letters, you get Zekua Melon… Your father, am I right?"

Kaby just closed his eyes slowly, painfully. "… My father loved writing, and I loved how he was so passionate about it… But then, one day, Everlue made him write the book… For three years, he wrote the book… And then, when he came home, he declared he was done with writing and cut off his own hand…"

He took a deep breath. "I even asked him why he did it in the hospital, how he could sell out and then quit… He just said the pay was good… I disowned him on the spot… And then he took his own life… I spat on his grave and cursed him, and yet I realised that I was the one who let him down. It must have been my leaving him that drove him to end it."

"I don't think that's true," I told him, pushing the book across the table to him. "… You should read it. Your father's final work… I think you'll be surprised."

Kaby hesitated before he slowly grabbed the book, lifting it up. "… Daybreak…" He chuckled bitterly. "What a terrible name…" He teared up. "My father's last work, featuring that bastard Everlue…"

"You're wrong," I told him. "Everlue isn't in the book at all."

"Huh?"

Suddenly, the book glowed and floated up into the air as the words peeled off the pages and glowed gold in a grand display, illuminating the room with Zekua Melon's magic power.

"W- What's going on!?" Kaby's wife gasped as Kaby's own eyes opened in shock at what he was seeing.

"Your father was both a novelist and a mage," I told Kaby. "He used the last remnants of his magical power to cast a spell on this book… Letter Re-Arranging Magic. This entire book, every last word, was an anagram… The last thing he wrote about, his greatest work… He didn't quit writing because he was ashamed. He stopped writing because he had already finished his greatest work… A letter to his beloved son."

We all watched as the book slowly closed as the letters finished re-arranging themselves, and the new title locked into place as they briefly glowed gold. 'DEAR KABY.'

"This…" Kaby's hands trembled as he caught the book as it slowly dropped down, staring at the cover. "Dad… You…"

"I'm not a father myself," I told Kaby. "But I know that, if I ever had a son and I had to spend 3 years apart from him… He would be the only thing on my mind that entire time," I smiled kindly. "Your father was an amazing man, Kaby Melon."

Kaby's body trembled as he held the book to his chest, tears starting to fall down his face. "Dad… I'm so sorry…"

I just smiled at him as his wife comforted him and stood up. "Well, I'm off," I told him. "I'm afraid I failed this mission since my job was to destroy the book, but it is perfectly fine from what I can see, right?"

"You… I can't let you do that," Kaby argued. "Please, at least let me pay you!"

"There's no need for that," I told him. "Besides, you can't afford to pay me, right? I use a special kind of magic that enhances my senses, and I can smell that this mansion doesn't have your scent… That two-hundred thousand is probably your entire life's savings, right?" I shook my head. "Keep it… I'd appreciate if you marked the job as done, but you don't have to if you don't want to."

"You…" Kaby stared at me in shock. "… You mages… You're really and truly amazing… Are you sure you don't want the money?"

"I'm sure," I waved it off. "It was a great mission for me since I got to test myself against some mercenaries, and even snatched something nice from Everlue while I was at it. You and your wife live your best lives, alright?" I smiled kindly as I walked to the door.

"Thank you!" He called out quickly. "I will never forget the kindness that you and Fairy Tail have shown me on this day! Thank you… For letting me read my father's final words to me!"

I just lifted my hand with a smile as I left the room and walked out of the mansion.

[All's well that ends well, right Senpai?] BB smirked in amusement as she floated alongside me… Thankfully not wearing the cheerleader outfit.

'Yep,' I stretched happily and arched my back. 'Finished the job, got Virgo's Key, dealt with Everlue… Sure I didn't get the money, but money is somewhat irrelevant to me. Overall, I'm very happy.'

She smirked in amusement. [Is that so? ~ By the way, congratulations Senpai~]

'For what?' I asked her, tilting my head in confusion.

Her smirk only widened. [For successfully changing the trajectory of fate by performing the Duke Everlue mission yourself, and taking Virgo's Celestial Spirit Key, you just obtained a World Wheel Spin~]

"… Eh?"
