Chapter 7: The wolf's embrace
Ren's strong arms wrapped around me, lifting me effortlessly from the forest floor.
My pulse raced, not just from the adrenaline of running, but from the unyielding heat of his touch, as if his very hands could burn through me.
The wolves, once encircling and growling, now kept their distance, their dark eyes fixed on their master.
They weren't just beasts of the wild; they were his, trained, loyal, and terrifying.
The mansion loomed in the distance, a shadow against the night sky, and I was no longer running.
I was being carried, powerless, but not entirely afraid.
As his footsteps echoed through the dense silence of the woods, I stared up at him, my mind still reeling from the escape, the danger, the raw thrill of it all.
"So, Miss Marlowe?" Ren's voice cut through the tension that had clung to us both, dark and commanding.
He carried me as if I weighed nothing, but there was a certain possessiveness in the way he held me, as though I belonged to him in some twisted way.
I swallowed, the taste of defiance still fresh on my tongue.
"I wanted to see if the wolves were as cruel as you."
A low chuckle rumbled in his chest, the sound both a warning and a promise.
His eyes gleamed in the moonlight, shadows dancing in the depths.
"They follow orders. Just like you will."
The words slithered into my mind, a cold, undeniable truth. The challenge had been set the moment I'd dared to flee.
My chest tightened, and I felt the subtle shift of his grip, strong, unyielding, yet strangely tender.
I met his gaze, my breath steady despite the fluttering chaos inside me.
"Why do you play with fire?" The question slipped out before I could stop it, my voice betraying more curiosity than I cared to admit.
"You leaped into the flames," he said, his lips curling into a dark smile, the amusement flickering in his eyes like the embers of a dying fire.
"And now you want to burn me?" My voice was a challenge, but even as the words left my lips, I knew it was more than that. It was a dare, a deep need to see how far this dark dance would go.
He leaned closer, and the air around us grew thick, heavy. His breath whispered against my ear as his words slithered like silk.
"Only if you make me." His proximity, his strength, they were both intoxicating and terrifying, and I couldn't pull away even if I wanted to.
"Is that a challenge?" My breath caught.
"I thrive on challenges," he murmured, his voice low and sultry. The words wrapped around me, drawing me in. There was no escape now. Not from him, not from this.
"Good," I whispered, my own pulse quickening. "Then let's see who gets burned first."
He didn't respond right away.
The journey to the mansion felt like an eternity, each step dragging us closer to the inevitable.
As we crossed the threshold of the mansion, Ren lowered me carefully to my feet, his grip never loosening.
His eyes held a dark challenge as they locked with mine. He took a step back, just enough to make the distance between us.
"I'm not afraid of fire," I said, the words daring him to test me. My fists clenched at my sides,
"Then let's turn up the heat," Ren replied, his voice dark with promise, a wicked smile curling on his lips. He wasn't playing. Neither of us was.
"Game on." My voice barely rose above a whisper, but the intensity in my gaze spoke volumes.
I stepped closer, my heart pounding in my chest, the unspoken challenge thrumming between us like an electric wire ready to snap.
Ren's breath stirred the air as he leaned in, his voice a seductive purr against my cheek.
"Are you sure you want to play, Miss Marlowe? This game has no rules, and the stakes are higher than you know."
"I'm not afraid of your games, Mr. Valenti." My voice trembled ever so slightly, but I held his gaze, refusing to back down.
There was something about him, something in the dark corners of his eyes, that called to a part of me I didn't fully understand.
"I'm ready to play... and win."
Ren's smirk deepened,
"Then let's begin, shall we?" His voice was low, a promise laced with danger.
"The night is young, and I have a feeling our game will be anything but ordinary."
And as the door to the bedroom closed behind us, sealing us in that darkened world of shadows and fire, I knew one thing for certain: neither of us would walk away unscathed. The game had begun. And it was far from over.
My breath quickened. "What do you have in mind?"
"A little game of truth or dare," he whispered, his lips brushing my ear. "But in our world, the consequences are far from child's play."
My pulse quickened. "Truth or dare it is."
"I'll start," Ren said, his eyes gleaming.
"Truth: What's your biggest fear, Elena?"
I hesitated, caught off guard. "Being trapped," i admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
"A fear I intend to exploit," he murmured, "Dare: Prove to me you're not." I swallowed, my eyes flicking to the door, then back to him. "How?"
"Go outside. Alone. Into the woods." His lips curved into a dangerous smile. "Stay there for an hour. If you return untouched, you've faced your fear."
My heart raced. "And if I don't?"
Ren's gaze darkened. "Then you'll learn the true meaning of being trapped."I steeled myself, my hands trem, glancing at the door.
"An hour," i whispered, my voice laced with determination. "I'll be back before the hour's up."
"We'll see," Ren replied, his eyes never leaving me.
"Remember, in this game, the truth can be just as dangerous as the dare."
I stepped into the night out the gate entrance, my heart pounding in my ears. The forest looed and cold,
As i ventured deeper, the rustling leaves whispered secrets, and the shadows danced, taunting my fears.
"Elena!" Ren's voice cut through the night, sharp and commanding.
"Come back now, or you'll regret it."
"I'm not afraid!" I shouted, my voice carrying on the wind. "I'll prove it to you!"
"You're a fool, Elena," he called out. "This game is not for the weak. The wolves are waiting."
I stopped, my heart pounding. "I'm not running anymore. I'll face them, and you."
He'll save me again from them...
A howl echoed, followed by another. My breath caught as the wolves emerged from the darkness, their eyes glowing.
I found myself in a chilling situation, surrounded by shadows and a chorus of howling wolves in the night woods again..
The night air sent a chill through me, cutting through the tension as i faced the shadows that shifted around me.
"Come out, come out, wherever you are," Ren's voice slithered through the darkness, oozing with amusement.
"Shut up, Ren," i shot back, clenching my fists at my sides. I dont know what im doing right now , am i trying to really challenge him?,
The shadows slithered closer, and a low growl sounded from the brush.
A massive black wolf emerged, the same one as before.
"Such spirit," Ren cooed, a satisfied grin tugging at his lips. "But let's see how long it lasts."
The wolf circled, muscles rippling beneath its fur as it approached, every step deliberate and lethal.
My heart raced, fear and defiance wrestling within me.
"Do it, Rio," Ren commanded, not breaking his unyielding gaze at me.
Before i could process the command, the wolf lunged, sinking its teeth into my thigh. Pain flared, sharp and sudden, sending me crashing to the ground, and the world spiraled into a whirlwind of agony and shock, i let out a sharp scream.
My scream pierce the night air, a cruel smile tugs at ren's lips i could see.
"Get up, Elena," Ren's voice had turned darkly amused, tinged with a twisted excitement that sent shivers down my spine.
"You wanted to play. Now play."
I couldn't believe him i shut my eyes closed as i scream.
The wolf released me suddenly, blood seeping through the fabric of my dress. Breathing through gritted teeth, i tried to gather myself and crawl away, but the pain was a tempest waging war in my mind.
"Why are you doing this?" I gasped, my voice trembling as i glared up at the dark figure watching me with unfathomable eyes.
"Because I can, did you really think you could outrun me, little one?"
he replied, delighting in my suffering.
"Besides, you're now bound to my world. This is just the beginning."
He stepped closer, a predator in his own right, towering over my crumpled form. I struggled to rise, leg catching against the wet earth as he knelt beside me,
His expensive suit now ruined by the mud and my blood.
He doesn't seem to mind, instead he seems almost entertained by the sight of me struggling like a wounded animal.
He gently turns my injured thigh, examining the wound the wolf left.
"Children must learn consequences," he mused, his breath brushing against my cheek, mingling with the scent of danger.
"Shut up," i said through my clenched teeth, my words losing their bite as my gaze fell to the blood pooling around my leg.
Ren's fingers are warm against my cold skin as he inspects the bite. His touch is gentle, almost caring, but there's an underlying current of danger that keeps me on edge.
He looks up at me,"You're lucky it wasn't worse."
He gripped my chin, tilting my face toward his. "You wanted to prove you're not afraid, didn't you?"
"I didn't ask for this!" The fire in my words flickered against the dark vacancy of his expression.
I realized at this point that i really did lose my freedom.
"No, but here you are," he murmured, pulling me closer, eyes glinting with dark satisfaction.
"And now I'll carry you back."
"No!" I squirmed in his grasp as he swept me into his arms, reveling in the ache that pulsed from my thigh. "Put me down!"
"Not a chance."
With ease, he cradled me against his broad chest, legs dangling limply. He began striding back to the mansion,
"Elena," he said, "Your pain is a beautiful reminder of your place here."
I glared up at him, fury threatening to ignite me. "I'm not your possession, I'm not bound to you,"
i protested through gritted teeth, wincing as pressure pushed against my throbbing wound.
"Not yet," he condescended, his lips curling into a smirk. "But soon enough, you'll embrace your new reality."
The mansion loomed ahead,
Again.
"Maria!" Ren called out, his authoritative voice echoing through the hallways. "Get some bandages."
The head housekeeper emerged promptly with two other maids, not a flash of shock crossing their features as they took in the scene, i wondered if they get used to horrible things.
Maria cleaned the wound from all the blood and dirt, her hands shaking slightly, and i hissed as the antiseptic stung the puncture.
"Just think," Ren continued, leaning against the wall, observing with dark amusement. "One bite and look where we are. You'll notice that every part of this life has a price."
"Just… leave me alone," i managed, biting my lip against the pain.
"Leave you alone?" he scoffs, his voice low and laced with disbelief.
His eyes never waver from me, sharp and penetrating as he leans casually against the ornate table, his arms crossed over his chest.
The movement is calculated, deliberate, he knows the power he holds in this moment.
"Yes," I reply, my voice firm, though I can't meet his gaze. I turn my head away, hissing as the maids gently tend to my bandages, their hands light but precise.
Ren's gaze lingers on my face,
I feel his eyes on me even as the maids continue their work, the silence between us heavy, filled with tension.
His voice breaks the silence, smooth and cold. "You're not in a position to be giving orders, little one."
I glance up then, meeting his eyes, the challenge in my gaze sharp despite the ache in my body. But I don't speak. The words hang in the air, unspoken yet understood.
His eyes glimmered with a twisted blend of dark fascination and amusement.
I thought he's definitely twisted human being.
Maria finished as the bite wasn't so deep.
"See to it that she's comfortable," he instructed, turning to leave,
My anger flared and I didn't know i had such courage, "This isn't over. I won't stay still."
Ren paused, glancing back, an almost affectionate smirk planted on his face. "No, it's just beginning."
The door clicked shut behind him, leaving me in the warmth of the mansion where the shadows whispered secrets, binding me to a fate i didn't choose.
