A Comfortable Craftsmanship Life in the corner of Another World: The Workshop the Goddess Gave Me Was a Little Overkill

Episode 3 - Encounter at the River

A water source was easily found. When I heard the sound of water and turned my feet in that direction, it was really easy.

 It’s a river.

It was a reasonably large river. It was about 10 meters wide. The current was not very fast. However, in the middle of the river, it seemed to be waist-deep.

“I have to be careful.”

It’s a good thing I found water. And it’s not a puddle, but a clear, flowing stream. It was so clear that we could drink it straight out of the water.

But I don’t drink it. Raw water is dangerous. I found it before I got thirsty, so I’ll drink it later.

“Okay, I know where the river is.”

Now that we have found the river, our main concern is solved. Next, we would work on the shelter.

I was wearing heavy clothes and it was a bit hot when I walked. This means that the temperature is still at the same level as the beginning of spring. The nights in the forest are quite cold, so it is better to make a bed to protect your body temperature.

Back to the forest. It’s cold by the river, so it’s better to leave for a bit.

Once you find a flat area where it will be easy to place the shelter, gather materials there. The standard practice is to pick up branches and tie them together with grass, ivy, bark, etc., to form a triangular framework, an A-shaped, so-called “truss structure.

The most difficult part of the process is tying and securing,

The power of “ can get you through it.

After building the framework, I put more and more branches that I picked up to make a wall. Once the branches were ‘fixed’ to the wall, it stood firmly on its own.

Then, dead grass and leaves are piled on top of the branches to shelter them from the wind and rain.

Make a floor because lying directly on the ground will suck out your body heat indefinitely. Lay down a thick branch for yourself to lie on, then spread leaves and grass on top of it. Soft moss is even better. There was.

And so the shelter is complete.

 But…,

is too great. ……

The forest is truly untouched, and there are countless fallen branches. However, their thickness and length are very uneven, making them unsuitable as shelter material unless they are broken or cut.

The shelter is a bushcraft shelter that is made by machining them. With just one small knife, it is quite a time-consuming task.

However, what I had expected to take several hours was done in about an hour. What the heck.

In addition, after walking and then working without a break to gather materials, my body is still not even out of breath.

“Hmmm, I really do have an energetic body.”

Could it be that we can fight the cold at night with just our physical strength, even without shelter? It seems so.

Well, it doesn’t hurt to make yourself comfortable. It’s fine when you are well, but when you are weak, there is a big difference between having a shelter and not having one at all.

Well, let’s do the next one.

“Mm?”

I turned around with my walking stick when I thought I heard the faint sound of leaves kicking. It was the sign of a wild animal.

I turned around and there it was – insanely, a rabbit with horns.

“…… Wow, another world.”

Creatures you would never see in any zoo appeared there, and at once I had to admit. It’s another world, this place.

Rabbits are pretty big. Of course, I mean for a rabbit. A rabbit bigger than a medium-sized dog would be quite big.

…… You’re not a dangerous guy, are you?

His big red eyes widen as he makes eye contact with me.

The next moment, the rabbit’s figure suddenly grew larger. –It charged at me.

“ahh!”

And with a sound, the rabbit’s horns pierced with tremendous force.

– once the horns are ‘fixed’, they can’t be stabbed any further or pulled out.”

There is a rabbit jittering and flailing around with its horns stuck in the middle of the staff in its hand.

He blocked the horns of the rabbit that came at him with the cane in his hand, and the moment the horns pierced the cane, he ‘fixed’ the cane and the horns.

Once this happened, it was just a rabbit hanging in midair. It was a carnivore that attacked me, even though it had the appearance of a rabbit.

 However,

“Don’t underestimate my countryside upbringing,” he said. “Almost every animal you encounter in the mountains, no matter how big or small, is hostile to humans.”

It is the country people who first confront any wild animal they see for the first time with caution.

Deer, crow, fox, badger, raccoon dog, civet, and monkey – for those who have experienced life in very rural areas, those are the names of dangerous creatures.

In places where animals outnumber humans, it is common for even small animals to pounce on them to take the food in their hands.

It is not often, though, that they rush at humans so aggressively.

I was able to hold my stick calmly, because I could see its movements and my body was quick enough to respond to its thoughts.

In the past, when a wild boar lunged at me, all I could do was step back.

“Maybe it was the goddess. ……”

My divine protection managed to say something about it, and I’m thankful for that. And I added one more thank you.

“Thank you for today’s meal, Goddess.”

The rabbit meat squealed in a sad voice. Hahaha, I’m totally fine with handling any vermin that sounds like it’s about to attack a person.

The simplest problem in the forest is hunger.

How to find food? This is quite difficult.

If one animal could be hunted, the problem could be improved to a much greater extent. For even one rabbit is enough to fill a man’s stomach.

 Just,

‘Rabbits have so little fat that if you only ate rabbits, you’d starve to death.’

It’s called rabbit starvation, a symptom. You’re eating, but you’re malnourished and dying. Scary, scary.

But when I opened it, I found that the rabbits in the other world had fat on them. Thank goodness. Well, the rabbit that attacked me is a carnivore or an omnivore, so it is different from ordinary rabbits. It also has horns.

 …… Isn’t it a rabbit?

I decided to set aside any questions that came to mind.

The process for handling a four-legged animal is roughly the same. The blood is drained, the organs are removed, the meat is cooled, the skin is removed, and the animal is divided into parts.

I was lucky enough to catch it alive, so I have plenty of time to bleed it.

“With , you can afford to hang in the air.”

I brought the rabbit to the river and hung it upside down with its hind legs attached to a branch that I ‘fixed’ in mid-air. It was floating in the empty air like a bug in a game.

 It’s quite a surreal sight.

“I’ll enjoy having this.”

put your hands together to drain the blood, remove the entrails, and submerge the rabbit in the river. The meat of a freshly killed animal is lukewarm and perishable. Refrigerate immediately to prevent spoilage.

By the way, if it is not an emergency, you should not touch wild animals with your bare hands. If it has ticks on it and they bite you, the worst thing that can happen is that you die. Soaking in the river is also a good way to clean dirt and ticks.

Now, once submerged in the river, we can observe the internal organs.

Once the bark of a living tree has been cut and stripped, and the rough bark has been scraped off to make it thinner, it is folded while softening with water and secured at both ends. Only then can the bark be shaped like a square Tupperware container. A pot of bark.

With a knife, some skill, and glue fixation, I was able to make a large bark container in no time.

The internal organs were dropped into the bark container, and for the time being, the stomach and lower parts were cut out and moved to another container. What remained was the liver, kidneys, heart and lungs. It was roughly the same as the contents of a rabbit I had seen before.

“No poison bags or anything, right?  No, just a little weirdly shaped heart.”

I don’t want to eat the internal organs.  They have horns, and I was just observing the internal organs as a precaution.

And then.

“Mm.”

I felt the presence of animals again.

Perhaps it was the sight of the entrails that attracted him to the smell of blood.

I turn around, holding up a cane with a little hole in it.

There were,

“…… puppy?”

It was a gray puppy with round eyes.

It is staring at me, without a hint of deadly intent.

“A dog?”

 I rather like dogs.

Wild dogs are scary animals, of course, but since dogs are familiar to us, it is easy to tell from their faces whether they are going to attack us or not. Of course, if you are not careful with big dogs, they can suddenly turn on you and you can get into trouble just for “playing” with them.

It reminds me of a hound that my uncle, a hunter, used to have. He was a friendly and powerful Japanese dog. He trained him to be friendly so that he would not bite people. His parents also liked people and welcomed me when I met them.

After moving to Tokyo, I couldn’t afford a dog, but I couldn’t help but get caught up in the buzz about dogs I saw online.

I lower my cane and look at the puppy.

“I hope the parents don’t attack me.”

I can deal with the puppies, but I don’t want the parents of the puppies to get angry and attack me.

I’m not afraid, just in trouble. Just fix it with and run away.

It’s amazing how grateful I am for the divine gift when I’m not afraid to be attacked by wild dogs.

The puppy stares at me. He’s cute.

“Are you hungry?”

A puppy that has been spotted by an opponent larger than itself, but won’t run or hide. Even if you call out to him, he won’t run away or be on guard.

This is a problem. What can I do?

If the smell of rabbit meat is what brought you here, you might be hungry.

“You can eat this one.”

The entire bark container was tossed, guts and all, at the puppy.

The puppy jerked back at the container that fell nearby, but seemed intrigued and moved closer to the entrails.

Then he stepped his paw into the container and stuck his nose in.  It was making the sound of eating something. It seemed to be the right answer.

From here you can’t see them eating, but they are cute.

 I was thinking that.

Crack! Crunch!  There was a sound like something chewing on a bone.

“I’m pretty sure I didn’t put any bones in it. ……”

As I tilted my head, the puppy looked up with a whimper.

It looked at me with its tongue hanging out of its slightly bloodied mouth and made a single cry.

Then he runs off into the woods.

“Don’t come back!”

But I’m not confident that I won’t do the same thing when It comes back.

No, I know. Feeding wild animals is not a good idea. If it were a deer, I’d kill and butcher it every chance I got.

But there’s no sign of anyone around anyway, and I’m the only one here.

The goddess sent me to this place in another world as a place where I don’t have to worry about what other people think.

If that’s the case, it should be okay to go a little out of the norm on earth – in other words, to get a bit out of the norm.

I collected the container with such a small-town thought in mind.

“…… that guy eats nothing but the heart.”

Did he just eat the best part and go home? He was quite a cheeky puppy. But I forgive him.

It was right after I was in such a dusty state of mind.

Suddenly, the voice of someone other than myself roared.

“Aaaaahhhh —-!”

 It was completely unexpected.

Because this was supposed to be a pristine forest, a place where one did not have to worry about being seen, and I had never dreamed that the screams of a young woman would strike my ears in such a place.

Moreover, the voices were coming from above the trees.

Surprised, I looked up and there it was,

“D-did you eat it……?”

A very beautiful woman was looking down at me, her eyes moist.

“What…………?”

I was a little lost in thought at this mysterious sight I had never imagined.

She was a beautiful woman with a doll-like face that looked at least one foot out of the human realm. Her light-pigmented hair was tied back in a bun, the ends of which shone dazzlingly like a crown as they swayed in the forest sunlight.

Her pearly white skin and long limbs are full of vitality, dancing dangerously on the branches, and she even looks powerful with her wonderful proportions.

Her eyes, shimmering like life-giving jewels, were shaking a little as she looked at me.

Such a beautiful woman had ears that were longer than normal – or rather, a little too long for normal.

I saw that in a movie a long time ago.

“Elf”

I can’t help but say to myself.

“Hey, you!”

“…… me?”

I was slow to react, and the voice was thrown at me again. When I responded, pointing to my chin, the beautiful woman nodded with all her might and raised her voice.

“I’m sorry to be so abrupt! Have you seen a little doggie around here? Have you eaten it……?”

“Eat ……? Oh, this is different.”

In a container near me are animal entrails.

Looking up at the elf, I answered.

“I didn’t eat it. That dog just went over there.”

“Oh yes, thank goodness! I totally doubted you, I’m sorry! I’ll have to go after her then!”

“Yeah, good luck.”

“Thank you!”

As soon as I answered, the elf ran over the branches of the trees as quickly as if she were flying through the air.

After looking at her in shock, I said to myself

“It’s a different world, so…”

How many times have I said this?
