Episode 24: Helping Hands
Well, today is felling and leveling. I have to pull out the roots, so it’s a bit of a hassle.
What I’m aiming for from now on is a slightly upgraded hut made of planks.
We’ve bought a lot of things, and we’ve added one more resident, so we’ll build a new hut and move in there.
Also, I would like to relocate the existing shed and use it as a storage shed for seasonings, firewood, etc.
“I want to build a workshop.”
I want something like a sawmill or a workshop.
Right now, I’m doing everything with just the logs piled up nearby and a cross stand.
I feel like if I set up a workshop, I could do a lot more things more efficiently.
But for now, I’m giving priority to the warehouse. Because it has a big impact on food.
“Oh, let me help you.”
After taking a bath, Chigusa’s body, uniform, and cloak all looked shiny, and she said so herself, perhaps feeling refreshed.
“Well, it’s hard work, but…”
“Ah, no, it’s okay. I have dark magic.”
“…What exactly is dark magic? It’s about that octopus-legged guy and hiding things in the shadows, right?”
“N-no, dark magic is mainly about ‘invisible power’, so I’m good at this kind of thing.”
Chigusa held her hand over a large log.
“Nyaru Informal Chant –
A log gently appears at the tip of my hand.
“Wow”
“Ah, I was wondering if I could help you.”
“I see… Well then, I guess I can help you.”
“Ah, yes. Leave it to me!”
Chigusa gave a small but reliable reply.
“Alright, next.”
“Ah, already? Okay.”
Chigusa floats a log and brings it over to me.
On a workbench made by driving stakes into the ground, I peeled the bark, sliced it thinly, and processed it into boards.
Chigusa stores the planks that I cut and dropped to the side in the shadows.
This is very easy.
Processing was easy with
With a thousand kinds of dark magic, the effort was suddenly reduced.
That’s why I got fired up and started cutting logs all at once.
Efficiency is wonderful.
“Okay, then let’s start working on the hut.”
“Yes, yes. Yes…”
“…after taking a break”
“…Yes”
A depressed high school girl.
It’s good that it’s more efficient, but if I don’t pay attention to Chigusa’s physical strength, I feel like she’s going to die.
Let’s be careful.
After a short break, work resumed.
“Next time, take that square piece of wood.”
“Y-yes. E-!”
Build a foundation using the rock blocks you cut out.
Prepare pillars of the same length and lumber that will serve as a base, and place them side by side by type.
I floated the things I needed right away in the air and had Chigusa throw them to me.
Chigusa made the lumber float in the air with no gravity, and with all her might pushed it with her arms, sending it flying towards me.
His face was bright red and sweat was flowing on her face.
When we talk about weightlessness, there is a common misconception that we can carry heavy objects with just our fingertips.
Actually, even if the weight can be reduced to zero, the mass remains the same.
Simply put, it doesn’t take any force to “hold” a kilogram of something. Rather a hindrance.
However, force is required to “push”, and if the speed is high, the same amount of force as the push is required to stop it.
Well, the problem is that even objects without gravity get tired when thrown.
Because of that, Chigusa was exhausted. but,
“…It was hard for me to say because you’re working so hard.”
“F-fui?”
“Which is easier, throwing lumber with your octopus legs? I’d appreciate it if you could do it the easier way…”
“……………………Ah”
A high school girl who cheats on dark magic. I have forgotten my abilities.
In any case, the work progressed greatly after that thanks to Chigusa, who was able to manipulate the lumber with just one finger.
“This is fine.”
What I wanted to build was a small shed, maybe a little larger than a storage shed.
Even if you cut the abundant and sturdy wood into thick pieces and use it as a floor, it’s free.
That’s why I quickly built the walls and built the single-sided roof above them.
I have some experience building sheds, and this time I have some high school girls helping me move the wood up, so it’s bigger than before, but the work is faster.
Being in zero gravity makes it easier not only for Chigusa but also for me.
“Dark magic is amazing, isn’t it? It’s like heavy machinery.”
It took no time until most of the exterior was completed.
“Wow, that’s amazing. The hut is already built…! Well, magic!?”
“No, that’s what magicians do.”
If we put insulation in the walls and attach the inner walls, it looks like the hut will be able to be used as a really nice residence.
However, I don’t have the means to upgrade this wall.
“There’s no insulation… I guess we’ll have no choice but to just put the inner wall on.”
There is no insulation material such as styrofoam or glass wool that can be adjusted to size on the spot.
Well, let’s make some insulation someday.
Fortunately, drafts can be countered by using bark sheets and the perfect handwork and joining of
If the walls were thicker, it should be fairly comfortable.
“So, okay.”
It took more than half a day, but the hut was completed.
“Chigusa, thank you for your hard work.”
“Oh, thank you for your hard work!”
Chigusa was always helping us with things like transporting and lifting wood.
“I’ve been sitting for a long time, but isn’t your lower back hurting? Are you okay?”
“Z-Zenzen!”
I almost treated her like a heavy equipment pilot.
It will immediately take out the cut boards, and even if you are standing on the roof, the bark sheet will fly up as much as you need.
Dark magic is extremely useful.
However, since the work with
Maybe I should have paid more attention to my physical condition.
“The hut…is ready.”
“Ah. Thank you for your hard work.”
With sweat dripping from her forehead, Chigusa looked up at the hut that had just been completed.
“But, I did my best, didn’t I?”
“? If it wasn’t for Chigusa, we wouldn’t have built such a nice hut.”
At my answer, the high school girl’s eyes widened and she looked up at the hut again.
“…Hehehe”
His face looked a little happy.
“Then let’s have dinner. How’s your stomach feeling?”
“Ah, I feel completely fine now. It doesn’t hurt.”
“That’s good”
Is it because he is young that he recovers so quickly, or is it because of the otherworldly improvement in his constitution that he himself said at the beginning?
Either way, I’m thankful for the creator.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to go hunting because I’ve been busy building the hut. So bear meat is the only thing they have to eat.
“Then let’s eat bear hot pot.”
“I’m fine as long as it’s meat…”
Chigusa groaned with a complicated look on her face. Maybe it reminded me of the demolition scene.
However, Chikusa ate as much bear meat as I did, or more than I did, as it had a very strong flavor.
He is energetic and very reliable. If this is the case, I’ll be able to work tomorrow as well.
By the time Mystia comes back, it’s the second hut.
It looks like I’ll be able to build a third hut the day I get back.
“Now that I think about it, I have to explain Chigusa to Mystia… Well, I think Mystia will accept it easily.”
That’s how I was optimistic.
