Lin Yao stood in the corner of the abandoned factory, her heart almost leaping out of her chest. She felt Qin Yao's hand tremble slightly, and his tense back made her realize that this moment was not only about her life.

"They're almost here," Qin Yao said in a low voice, almost vanishing into the air. "We can only break through this wall. Otherwise, there's no way out."

Lin Yao nodded, but her heart was filled with doubts. She could feel the tension on Qin Yao, even though he always appeared calm and decisive. She remembered all the warnings he had given her before, and the words about the "source" still echoed in her mind. Qin Yao was not just her protector as he seemed; his identity was more complicated than she thought.

"Why are you helping me?" She finally couldn't hold back and asked the doubt in her heart. "If the enemy is really this dangerous, why are you taking such a big risk?"

Qin Yao was silent for a moment, gazing ahead. A complex emotion flashed in his eyes, as if something was paining him deep inside. Finally, he turned around and said slowly, "Because you are the only one who can change the situation. Without you, everything would be meaningless."

Lin Yao's heart trembled, and she felt a sense of confusion. She didn't understand Qin Yao's meaning, and the depth of his words made her feel uneasy.

Just then, suddenly, the factory gate was violently burst open, and several people rushed in. They were wearing black tight - fitting clothes, and masks covered their faces, only their eyes revealing a cold light.

"Found them," one of them said in a deep voice, his eyes full of murderous intent.

Lin Yao's heart jumped violently, and her body instinctively took a step back, but Qin Yao held her wrist.

"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you," Qin Yao said in a low voice, his tone so firm that she had almost no room for doubt.

However, Lin Yao could sense a kind of pain in Qin Yao's eyes that was not easily noticeable. That pain seemed to come not from her, but from himself. She took a deep breath and clenched her teeth, saying, "I'm not afraid."

She decided not to struggle pointlessly anymore. Since this storm could not be avoided, she could only face it.

"Let her go." Suddenly, another familiar voice came. Lin Yao looked back and saw that it was the man who once fought alongside Qin Yao—Lu Hao.

Lu Hao's face was cold, his gaze sharp as a knife, staring at Qin Yao. Behind him stood a team of elite warriors, also dressed in black. Lin Yao was stunned. Wasn't this man Qin Yao's friend? Why would he appear here with enemies?

"Lu Hao, what are you doing?" Qin Yao asked coldly, a hint of dissatisfaction in his eyes. "Have you betrayed us?"

Lu Hao sneered, "I have not betrayed. I'm just doing what I should do. And you, Qin Yao, are no longer the person I knew."

Lin Yao could sense the underlying meaning in those words—Qin Yao and Lu Hao used to be partners, but now they stood on opposite sides. She felt a chill run down her spine. Had Qin Yao been hiding something all along?

"Your relationship..." Lin Yao asked in a low voice, a hint of complexity in her eyes. "Why did it come to this?"

Qin Yao did not answer. He just stared coldly at Lu Hao, his eyes filled with unyielding determination. "If you want her, you'll have to step over my dead body."

Lu Hao sighed. "Qin Yao, you're such a fool. Do you think you can protect her for a lifetime just by yourself?"

"I can," Qin Yao replied with great firmness. "I will do everything to protect her, even if it costs me my life."

A hint of mockery flashed in Lu Hao's eyes. "You think you're a savior? Qin Yao, you're just a tool that has been chosen."

Lin Yao suddenly felt a strong sense of crisis. There were more secrets hidden behind this conversation. She tightly grasped Qin Yao's wrist and dared not let go. "Qin Yao, what happened? Why has your relationship become like this?"

"The truth?" Lin Yao's heart ached. "What have you been hiding?"
