Chapter 50: Caroline's dilemma

AN: I wanted to end the tour arc in this chapter, but well, it got a bit bigger than I wanted. So, 1 more chapter before they go back to NY.

I might release 1 more chapter tonight.

Caroline's whole body stiffened at the words of Max.

"Oh," she flatly replied, eyes fleeing to the floor as if it contained the solution to every one of her dilemmas.

Max smiled like a cat that had just cornered a very delectable-looking mouse. "Oh? That's all you've got? C'mon, Blondie, are you going to ask or should I start? I know that little brain of yours is short-circuiting as we speak. Dish it out. What's going through that little innocent head of yours?"

Caroline folded her arms, attempting to be composed, but her blush was already giving her away. "I just... You and Alex… last night. Did you—?"

"Did we have sex?" Max cut in, her smirk widening. She leaned in slightly, like she was about to share the world's greatest gossip.

Caroline swallowed hard. "Y-yeah."

Max stretched like a cat before replying. "Oh, Blondie," she sighed blissfully. "Not sex. The kind of sex that makes you wonder everything you ever thought you knew about your own body. The kind of sex that should have its own national holiday. And you know what the best part is?"

Caroline wished she hadn't asked the moment she did. "Do I even want to know?"

Max propped herself up on her elbow and waggled her eyebrows. "You're missing out."

Caroline let out a strangled sound, somewhere between a groan and a whimper. "Max!"

"What? I'm just saying! You wouldn't believe what those magic fingers can do. I swear, that man could get a job as a professional orgasm-giver. Like, if billionaires ever run out of money, he could make a fortune just giving foot rubs and—"

'Magic fingers? Pro orgasm-giver? Is he that good for Max to be praising him nonstop?' Caroline thought for a split second and then covered her ears. "Nope. Nope. Not listening. Muting you now."

Max laughed, prying her hands away from her ears. "Oh, come on! I'm trying to do you a favor here. I mean, you already know he's hot. But, Blondie, you have no idea how built he is. Like, under that suit? Pure muscle. And the stamina? I swear, it's like he's training for some elite Olympic event called 'Making Max Black Scream His Name for Hours on End.'"

Caroline's blush deepened to an alarming shade of red. "Please stop talking."

Max ignored her entirely. "And his tongue? Don't even get me started on his tongue. It's sinful. It should be illegal. I almost blacked out at one point. Thought I saw heaven. Pretty sure I met my past life."

Caroline was officially in hell. "Max. I am begging you."

Max leaned closer, lowering her voice to a sultry whisper. "And the way he just fills you up... His was so big that..."

Caroline slapped a hand over Max's mouth. "I AM NOT READY FOR THIS CONVERSATION!" Max licked her palm.

Caroline shrieked, yanking her hand back and wiping it furiously on a pillow. "You are a menace to society!"

Max cackled, sitting up properly. "And you love me for it."

Caroline groaned, covering her face with her hands. "I hate that you're making this sound… intriguing."

Max's grin turned wicked. "Ohhh, so you are interested."

"No!" Caroline said too quickly. "I just... I mean..."

Max wiggled her eyebrows. "Blondie… it's okay. You like Alex. Always have. And now, you're thinking about it. Us. Together. As one big, happy, well-loved family."

Caroline opened her mouth to deny it, but no words came out. Her throat was parched, her head a jumble of disorganized thoughts, and her heart was racing in a manner she really, really didn't want to examine at the moment.

Max studied her, her mocking smile easing into something more sincere. "Look," she said, putting a hand on Caroline's knee. "I know this is absurd. And I know it's not really something you've ever even had on your radar. But you don't have to decide right now. Just… think about it. No pressure."

Caroline hesitated before taking a slow breath. "I am considering it," she whispered, admitting it.

Max smiled but didn't press the issue further. Instead, she sat back and stretched above her head. "Good. Just don't take too long, Blondie. You wouldn't want to miss out on all the benefits of having a billionaire boyfriend."

Caroline shot her a look. "You mean the free foot massages?"

Max winked. "Among other things.

Caroline shifted uncomfortably, folding her arms as if that would somehow shield her from the madness that was this conversation. She looked at Max, who seemed far too self-satisfied for a girl who had just given an entire TED Talk on why Alex Wilson should be in the Orgasm Hall of Fame.

There was a little pause. Caroline's sex life and love life flashed before her eyes... And, well, it didn't look good. Nope. Her life was as dry as the Sahara desert, with nothing between the day she lost her virginity to a guy named "William" who turned out to be a dildo she rode after getting drunk, not a man, and today except for that old fumble with someone she met on a night in a bar and she kicked his balls and ran away because he took his pants off and wanted to get into her pants in an alley without protection.

Or, that one time she tried a shady dating app, but all she got was some dick pics, and then a lot of men who were like 'What's up gorgeous' and 'Wanna fuck on coke?', and some old guy who kept asking for pictures of her tits. Later she learned from Max that it wasn't a dating site but a hooker finder. There was also that one time she tried a regular dating site, and it was better, but still not much better, and she only went on two dates, the first one with a guy who kept talking about his ex-wife and the second one told her she reminds him of his mother. She gave up after that.

Well, she has a mini-egg vibrator that she hid from Max. She uses it in the time of greater need.

With a reluctant sigh, Caroline muttered, "Okay, but… are the foot massages really that good? Or are you just being dramatic?"

Max's head snapped toward her so fast it was a miracle she didn't get whiplash. "Caroline," she said seriously, reaching out to grip her shoulders. "Sweet, innocent, naive Caroline. That man's hands are a gift from the gods. Do you hear me? A gift."

'That good?' Caroline blinked. "You're exaggerating."

Max shook her. "I had an orgasm. From a foot massage."

'Eeh?!' Caroline's entire system crashed. "You WHAT?!"

Max threw her hands in the air. "I came... like, full-body-shaking, toes-curling, actual religious experience—from nothing but his hands on my feet."

'How?' Caroline's jaw dropped. "That's not… that's not possible."

Max placed a hand over her heart, her expression solemn. "Blondie. It is possible. I was there. I lived it."

Caroline's brain refused to process this information. "You're lying."

Max leaned in, dead serious. "Caroline. My soul left my body. I saw the light. I think I met my ancestors. My great-great-grandma gave me a thumbs up."

Caroline sputtered. "This is… I don't even… What?!"

Max replayed that massage situation in her mind. "I didn't believe in miracles before, but now? Oh, honey. I believe."

Caroline buried her face in her hands. "I am so uncomfortable right now."

Max smirked. "You should be. Because now you're curious."

"I am not!"

Max shot her a knowing look. "You are so curious."

Caroline groaned. "I hate you."

Max grinned. "No, you don't. You love me. Just like you love Alex."

Caroline opened her mouth to argue but immediately shut it because, damn it, Max wasn't wrong.

And that was the worst part.

Max stretched her legs out on the couch with an exaggerated groan. "God, my feet are killing me," she whined, flexing her toes. "We walked way too much today. My poor little piggies have been through war."

Caroline, still recovering from the bombshell that was "orgasmic foot massages," raised an eyebrow. "Oh no, you had to walk while sightseeing. What a tragedy."

Max ignored the sarcasm, tilting her head thoughtfully. "Y'know… maybe I should ask Alex for one of those magical foot massages tonight. You know, as a farewell treat before we leave for New York." She grinned. "One last toe-curling experience before reality slaps me in the face."

Caroline's stomach did a weird little flip. She hated how easily Max could say things like that—so casual, like she wasn't talking about something completely insane. "You're actually going to ask him?"

Max waggled her eyebrows. "Oh, absolutely. It'd be a crime not to. I mean, the man has a gift, Blondie. It'd be like discovering a unicorn and not asking for a ride. What a waste."

Caroline covered her face with her hands. "I hate this conversation."

Max cackled. "Do you? Or are you just mad that I'm about to get pampered while you sit over there with aching feet, knowing you missed your golden opportunity?"

Caroline peeked between her fingers. "I am not mad."

Max smirked. "A little mad."

Caroline groaned. "No."

"Slightly envious?"

"Max."

"A tiny bit regretful?"

"Max."

Max grinned wickedly. "Because, honestly, Blondie, imagine what else those hands could do if a foot massage alone nearly sent me to the afterlife."

Caroline shot off the couch. "I AM LEAVING THIS ROOM."

Max burst into laughter as Caroline stormed toward the door, her ears burning. But just before Caroline could escape, Max called after her, voice dripping with amusement.

"Hey, if you are going out, just check out the pool area. You might get a nice view. Maybe click some pics and use them later..." Max winked.

A loud thud echoed as Caroline walked into the doorframe.

Max howled with laughter.

...

[Hotel Pool – Evening]

Caroline stormed out of the room, her ears still burning from Max's endless teasing. She had every intention of heading straight to the bar or maybe the rooftop garden—anywhere far, far away from Max's sex life.

And yet…

She found herself at the pool.

Not intentionally, of course. Absolutely not. It was just… after hours of walking and sightseeing, her feet were aching, and a soak sounded really good right now. That was all. Pure, innocent muscle relief.

This was not because Max had planted some ridiculous idea in her head. Nope.

At least, that's what she kept telling herself as she stepped onto the quiet pool deck.

The hotel's infinity pool stretched before her. The underwater lights were lit since it was already dark outside. And the pool was empty. No crew workers, no one. She sighed in relief or it was probably a bit of disappointment and thought Max was joking about Alex being in the pool.

The water looked heavenly.

Caroline let out a slow breath, rolling her shoulders. "Okay. A quick soak. Just to relax."

[Changing room]

Caroline stood in the changing room, staring at herself in the mirror.

"So, let me get this straight," she muttered to herself, hands on her hips. "I came to the pool for a relaxing soak, but my bikini is back in the room. Where Max is. And if I go back, she'll never let me live this down."

She groaned, rubbing her temples. "Okay. No big deal. Just wear the towel. Quick dip, then leave. No one's here anyway."

Nodding to herself, she tightened the fluffy white towel securely around her chest and took a deep breath. 'Confidence, Caroline. You're an independent, sophisticated woman. You've got this.'

Then she stepped out.

And immediately froze.

Because someone was here.

And that someone was currently pulling his shirt over his head, revealing broad, sculpted shoulders, perfectly toned abs, and arms that looked like they belonged in some kind of Greek mythology sculpture exhibit.

Caroline's brain blue-screened.

Alex.

Shirtless.

Right there.

In front of her.

A few feet away.

Her mouth went dry as she watched, completely hypnotized, as he casually tossed his shirt onto a chair. Then—because fate had a very twisted sense of humor—he unbuttoned his pants and slid them down, leaving him in nothing but a fitted swimming trunk that, well… left very little to the imagination.

'Oh, sweet Jesus on a bicycle.'

Caroline didn't mean to stare. She really didn't. But it was like witnessing an eclipse... you knew you shouldn't look directly at it, but somehow, you just couldn't stop yourself.

Her gaze may have accidentally dropped lower.

And that's when she saw it.

The bulge.

Her whole body locked up like someone had just hit the emergency brakes on her brain.

'Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Abort mission.' She was not prepared for this.

Without thinking, she tiptoed backward into the changing room, nearly tripping over her own feet in the process. Once inside, she flattened herself against the door, her heart pounding in her chest.

'Okay. Deep breaths. Be cool. Be normal. You are a mature adult who does NOT get flustered over...'

Caroline's eyes slowly went toward the bucket on the bench where she kept her belongings.

Her fingers twitched.

'No. Don't do it, Caroline. That's weird. That's...'

She grabbed her phone.

With a level of stealth she didn't know she possessed, Caroline peeked her head out of the changing room, phone at the ready.

Alex had his back to her now, stretching his arms in a slow, effortless movement that just so happened to flex every muscle in his back.

Click.

Click.

Caroline snapped two quick photos, biting her lip to keep herself from giggling.

She tried to slip out of the rooftop when...

"Having fun back there?"

Caroline's soul left her body.

She whipped around so fast she nearly gave herself whiplash.

Alex was staring directly at her.

With a smirk.

And then, he flexed.

Not in a subtle way. No, he full-on flexed.

First, he rolled his shoulders like he was warming up for a workout, then casually stretched his arms behind his head, making sure every single ab muscle was on display.

Caroline just stood there, gripping her phone like it was a grenade that had just been activated.

"Uh..." she wheezed, her brain turning into mashed potatoes.

Alex's smirk deepened. "Did you get my good side?"

Her mouth opened and closed like a fish. "I... I was just... um... uh..."

He arched an eyebrow. "Taking photos of me in secret?"

Caroline made a sound that was somewhere between a laugh and a dying seal. "I—uh—NO!"

Alex clearly didn't believe her.

She tried again, words tumbling out at warp speed. "I mean, okay, yes, but it's not what it looks like! Max told me... not important... I wasn't being weird... I mean, I was, but like, not in a creepy way... it was just a scientific curiosity—not that I was curious about YOU, I mean, you're objectively attractive—WAIT, NO, THAT CAME OUT WRONG..."

Alex just stood there, watching her absolutely implode, his arms still crossed, amusement flickering in his eyes. "Scientific curiosity, huh?"

Caroline slapped a hand over her face. "Please let me drown in this pool."

Alex laughed.

"You're cute when you're flustered," he said, stepping toward her.

Caroline backpedaled so fast that she nearly ran into the wall. "NOPE. Nope. We are NOT having this conversation. I was never here. You didn't see me. This was all a fever dream."

"Why don't you join me in the pool?" He asked with a smile that made her heart flutter.

"Ok." She replied instantly without a flicker of pause.
