10x Rewards: Becoming Invincible With My Sign-in System

Chapter 87: The Creepy Smile

The one Aegon trusted the most in this world was Xiu, so he naturally believed her words. But the question was, how did she find out so quickly?

They had just defeated their enemy, after all.

Still, he decided not to ask about it for now. Instead, he asked something else, "Can you take some of my construction team with you?"

[Huh? Them? No. They're supposed to be protecting you, so they should just focus on that.]

As Aegon looked at the shadows, he could feel their frustration and agitation. If he really didn't allow them to do this, they might actually do something crazy.

"Xiu, Hecte is with me, and I can't even bring them along because of the Academy. It's better you take them away on your mission," Aegon pleaded.

Now, how was it possible that Xiu would say no to her Aegon?

[Fine! Send Jason and Santiago. They know who to bring along, so I'll just take those two groups with me. That's more than enough for this mission.]

Those who weren't going with Xiu felt down, and even Aegon could feel it. So he added after Xiu, "Don't be so down. I also need protection here, after all. What if this was his plan all along? He could lure you away and then come at me full force."

That was enough to wake them up from their thoughts as their presence grew more frightening, and a low, chilling voice sounded from the tallest shadow.

"They will drown in their own blood if they dare to even get near you."

"See? I need you guys here, so don't make that sad face," Aegon said and waved his hand. "Now go do your thing."

Swiftly, the shadows dropped down on the ground and disappeared as if they had never existed in the first place.

[Then, take care of yourself and inform me if something happens.]

Just like how Aegon trusted Xiu the most, the same went for her. She knew Aegon was telling the truth when he said he was fine.

They didn't share a relationship where they told lies to comfort each other. Xiu didn't raise Aegon like that.

"Inform me too if you discover something. I'm quite curious why I suddenly have people coming for my head?" Aegon smiled and said.

[They were always there. It's just that none of them ever reached you because of Dad. But now that you're out of his presence, they began to target you. Still, it's suspicious how they attacked you in plain daylight. I'll investigate that first.]

"Be careful!" Aegon knew she wouldn't listen to him, but he still said it.

[I'll see the situation first and decide. I'm cutting off the connection now.]

"Bye!"

Aegon then shifted his focus to the tied-up man and said, "Let's hand them over to the City Guards. They can find their identities and send them back to their homes."

"But what if they're also colluding with that guy?" Cali asked, distrustful as ever.

"The chances of that happening are quite low, but we'll just have to see," Aegon nodded, as he had already thought of that. "Besides, the other option for us is to bring them ourselves. And I'm sure no one is looking forward to that."

"You can leave that to me!"

Aegon almost jumped out of his skin hearing that eerie voice behind him and hurriedly turned around, feeling apprehensive as this was the first time his sixth sense didn't work.

'No, it did work. I can feel it tingling, but it's already too late.'

Fortunately, he knew the man; otherwise, he would've thought their enemies had attacked again. From the corner of his eyes, he noticed how even his friends had the same reaction.

Amon adjusted his monocle and said, with his classic warm smile plastered on his face, "I noticed the formation of a barrier, and guess what, a surprise was waiting for me."

He turned towards Cali and said, "You're really an excellent student. Why don't you form a House yourself?"

"I don't want to," Cali replied bluntly but still kept her tone respectful.

"Unfortunate, but understandable. Continue with your hunting then," Amon said, then turned towards Aegon again. "I'll send them back to their family, so you can leave. After all, you need to come to the Academy tomorrow."

Aegon narrowed his eyes in suspicion and asked after a moment of hesitation, "Did you do this to test me or something?"

"Haha! I have better ways to test you," Amon laughed, taking no offense at all. "This has to be the worst of them."

After being pointed out, Aegon scratched his cheek in embarrassment as he realized how dumb his question was. He was just a little confused since Amon's timing and everything was too perfect, and he didn't like that creepy smile of his.

It was as if Amon was scheming every second. A shrewd person, that was Aegon's impression of him, aside from the fact that he was very strong.

"Then, I'll be taking my leave. I still have many candidates to watch," Amon smiled and adjusted his monocle again. That single motion made the chained people disappear completely. "And I'll be taking them with me."

With that said, he smiled at them once again and covered his face. Wherever his hand passed, his body disappeared as if he was blanketing his existence into nothingness.

Left alone on the battlefield, the four of them looked at each other before they decided to continue their short journey back home.

As they sat inside the wagon, Xavier asked, "Dean is really suspicious."

"But he's not the culprit," Aegon said. "He isn't this stupid."

"Yes," Cali also agreed. "But he's creepy."

"Then who do you think did this? The Princess?" Xavier asked again. "Aegon did kind of offend her in the stadium."

"She just pretends to be a fool, but she isn't one," Luna answered instead of Aegon. "She wouldn't pull a stunt like this. It's likely someone else."

"I'm willing to believe that the Prince did this more than the Princess, to be honest, but I know he didn't either," Aegon said in agreement. "So it's likely some old enemy of my family."

"So, what do we do now?"

"Eat!"
