10x Rewards: Becoming Invincible With My Sign-in System

Chapter 68: The God's Hand

Aegon had been fascinated with magic and the mystical world from the very start. After awakening, he began to learn more about magic, and his interest and curiosity only grew even stronger.

If he answered one question, a hundred more would appear before him, each waiting for him to uncover their secrets. From that moment on, he had decided he would definitely follow the Mage Pathway, as he wanted to learn more about the mysterious ways in which the world worked.

That also became one more reason for him to explore the world, for there were so many bizarre and wondrous things he wanted to witness with his own eyes.

On his way to the Academy, he had already encountered many strange phenomena, yet none of them could compare to what he was seeing right now.

Just to make sure he wasn't imagining things, he moved closer to the Academy and finally examined the bottom of it carefully.

"It's really a river," he muttered in disbelief.

There was no visible beginning to the river. Upon closer inspection, he could clearly see that the water was pouring into the river straight from the void. It came out of nowhere and also disappeared back into nothingness.

"This is just incredible," Aegon mumbled to himself. 'Should I use my eyes? No, I'll receive a backlash. I still need to increase my mastery over them before I can endure their usage.'

"Amazing, isn't it?" Xavier asked, patting his back as he pointed toward the titanic hand. "It's said that in the ancient times…"

"A Divine War took place which wiped out a vast portion of the world," Aegon completed for him. "Then, is this the hand of one of the Gods who fell during that war?"

Learning about the world also meant studying its history, so Aegon had read several books on the subject. However, since he focused more on the mystical and theoretical aspects of magic, his knowledge of history and geography was relatively limited.

"At least that's what the myths say," Cali added from the side. "Apparently, the giant is sealed beneath us, and the Essence River is the seal that ensures it doesn't awaken. It's said that this hand got stuck when that God tried to escape the seal."

"It could be true, but many consider it a myth," Xavier said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Many have tried researching underground, but no one has found anything substantial."

"The river can come from nowhere and vanish the same way," Aegon rolled his eyes. "Then why can't the rest of the body be sealed using some mystical means?"

"Makes sense," Xavier scratched his forehead and said. "Anyway, no one's ever been able to solve the mystery, but I'm sure the Dean and higher echelon of the Academy know more about it."

"Hmm, I guess I have another goal now," Aegon smiled and declared. "I'll get them to reveal the secrets somehow. I want to know more about this hand and the way this river works."

He genuinely wondered how someone, or something, had managed to create something so extraordinary and make it last for so long. From what he knew, the Supreme Apostle Academy had been established over two thousand years ago, and it had remained like this ever since.

'They definitely used the Law of Space… but what else?' he thought.

"Oh, you aren't surprised by the water?" Cali asked curiously.

"I sensed its unique nature, so only a little," Aegon replied calmly.

The uniqueness of the river came from the fact that the water wasn't ordinary at all, it was condensed Essence of the world, what mages called Mana.

It had been condensed to such an extreme degree that it had liquified into a vast and flowing river. It was difficult to imagine what kind of force or entity could achieve such a feat.

"The ancient times were really terrifying," Xavier said, shivering as he gazed down at the flowing essence. "Be careful of the river, Gon. If you bathe in it, you'll die."

"You think I have the same number of brain cells as you?" Aegon smacked his back and said. "It's obviously dangerous. Only an idiot would think of jumping into it."

"I have to agree with Little Gon here," Cali said, suppressing a laugh before raising her head. "Anyway, let's head to the Academy."

"Just a second," Aegon said before tapping his earring, changing his appearance back to his original form. His golden eyes once again shone brilliantly under the twilight, blazing like the last light of the fallen sun.

"You're going in there like this?" Xavier raised an eyebrow.

"I promised Xiu I wouldn't hide my identity," Aegon shrugged. "Besides, I don't see any reason to hide it in the Academy anyway."

"I know, I was just surprised," Xavier admitted.

Then, Cali led them to the front of the colossal hand, where they had a better view of its massive palm and the five giant fingers stretching out like mountains.

A long staircase connected the palm to the ground, it was the only visible entrance to the Academy. They reached the base of the stairs, where two guards stopped them. After checking their identities, they were allowed to pass.

Obviously, the guards didn't recognize Aegon at first, but his golden eyes were more than enough of a giveaway. Still, the main reason he was allowed in so easily was because of Cali's status as a student of the Academy and Aegon was listed as her guest.

As they ascended the hundreds of stairs, Aegon asked, "Does the Academy rely on a merit-like system?"

"You already know about the merit system?" Cali nodded. "Yes, merits are everything in the Academy. No other currency works here, and resources can only be bought using merits unless you receive them as rewards from the Academy or one of the Houses."

"Houses?" Aegon asked. "Are there groups within the Academy?"

"Yes," Cali explained. "The Apostle Academy heavily focuses on competition and on bringing out the best in everyone. Because of that, students are granted a lot of freedom." Her expression turned a bit strange as she added, "I'll tell you more details later."

"Sure," Aegon nodded.

Soon, they reached the top of the massive staircase. As they stepped onto the palm, Aegon felt as if he had passed through an invisible barrier.

"There's a Rune Formation here that detects if you hold any ill intent toward the Academy," Xavier explained. "And this—" he spread his arms wide, "—is the base of the Supreme Apostle Academy."

"It's beautiful," Aegon said with a smile as he looked around, his golden eyes gleaming. "It's really good."
