Chapter 96 - 3rd Level's Boss
3rd Level.
They had arrived.
The towering door loomed before them. Its presence was almost alive.
Lucien paused, drawing in a deep breath.
They were ready.
His INVENTORY was already stocked with anything that might give them an edge.
"Korrak. Vyrran."
At his command, the two drakes took their positions on either side.
With eager growls, they dug in their claws and heaved.
The massive slab groaned and the sound echoed through the chamber until it finally swung open.
Lucien leaned forward to peer inside...
...but the view shimmered. It warped as though reality itself resisted his gaze.
He swallowed.
"Formation."
The pets shifted instantly.
Sparkles took the rear. The other four closed in front, forming a protective semicircle.
Just to be safe, Lucien copied Perfect Calculation via Cram Session, sharpening his judgment and boosting his ability to spot any anomaly.
Then finally... they stepped inside.
But then...
The door slammed shut behind them with a deafening BANG.
Lucien flinched. That had never happened before.
He didn't have time to dwell on it.
The dungeon's glow bled away, draining the color from the walls until nothing remained but pitch-black void.
Darkness.
Lucien's instinct sharpened. His muscles tensed.
The ground rippled beneath their feet like disturbed water and a low, thrumming hum vibrated in the air.
Then...
Light returned.
Not the warm, steady glow of a normal dungeon.
Stars.
They bloomed into existence within the walls and ceiling. They drifted and shifted as though alive.
The chamber was bathed in their strange radiance. The constellations moved like they were part of some vast, breathing sky.
Lucien turned slowly, taking it all in.
It felt as though he were standing in the middle of space itself.
The dungeon walls had vanished into a cosmic abyss.
Black velvet scattered with stars.
Constellations drifting lazily.
Galaxies swirling in silent motion.
He focused and channeled divine energy into his eyes.
Relief washed over him. The walls were still solid.
The stars weren't real…
No, it was like standing inside a living painting. A vast mural of the universe that shimmered and breathed with light.
It was breathtaking.
The battlefield was massive. Larger than any Boss chamber he'd been before.
And the endless starfield only made it feel infinite.
But awe quickly gave way to caution.
This was no ordinary chamber. He was deep inside the Boss's domain.
And he saw it...
A spark flared in the distance.
Space itself fractured. A jagged crack of light bloomed in the void.
It stretched.
Bent.
Twisted...
...until it tore open into a rift.
From the tear emerged… something vast.
A translucent mass of deep violet and midnight blue, drifting with stars and swirling galaxies within.
At its heart spun twin radiant cores. They looked like captive suns locked in orbit around each other radiating an unearthly glow.
Its surface gleamed like liquid glass, distorting light and bending the air itself in waves.
Lucien swallowed hard.
Time seemed to stretch and every movement was drawn out in surreal clarity.
In reality, only a few seconds had passed since the door slammed shut.
"The hell? There's an entrance sequence for Bosses now?" he muttered. His eyes were fixed on the colossal form.
He smirked faintly.
"The only thing missing is some fine music… then I'd really be scared."
Without wasting another moment, he triggered INSPECT.
***
Infinity Slime Boss
Level: 30
Weakness:
• Mana Cores
• Singularity Destabilization
***
"Infinity!?"
The name alone spoke menace.
And that second weakness… he had no idea what it even meant.
Suddenly—
Lucien's instincts roared.
Danger.
Without hesitation, he barked the order.
"Spread out!"
His pets had felt it too.
The shift in the air.
The heavy pressure.
In an instant, everyone leapt in different directions.
Sparkles lunged forward and Lucien clung to its mane.
Then he glanced back...
A rift had torn open behind them.
But that wasn't what made his pulse spike.
Something unseen slipped out.
Through the divine energy in his eyes, he saw it...
A knot of condensed space coiling into whip-like tendrils.
They lashed out from the rift toward where they had been standing seconds ago.
CRACK!
The sound rattled the chamber as the blow struck the ground.
Lucien's eyes widened.
It had carved a deep, jagged mark into the dungeon floor.
'It can actually damage the dungeon?!'
That attack… it could actually slice through the impregnable dungeon.
And the danger wasn't over...
those tendrils weren't alone.
They writhed and looped in the air searching… hunting.
The Infinity Slime moved.
Rifts bloomed across the chamber.
One after another.
Each gave birthed to those whip-like tendrils of condensed space.
They lashed through the air, striking at the group in erratic arcs.
Lucien's mind snapped into command mode.
'Korrak. Vyrran. Go.'
The order rang in their minds. The two fastest of his pets let out low growls of acknowledgement before bursting forward in perfect sync.
In seconds, they closed the gap.
But the Infinity Slime didn't wait.
It slipped into a rift… and emerged from another across the room.
The drakes pivoted and gave chase but again...
Another rift. Another escape.
Meanwhile, Lucien and the rest weaved and rolled, keeping ahead of the hunting tendrils.
They were faster than the whips but the sheer number of them made it a relentless storm.
And the Infinity Slime… it was slippery in more ways than one.
Lucien's jaw tightened.
This wasn't a fight they could let drag on.
An idea sparked as Lucien's gaze flicked to his INVENTORY.
Anchor Stones.
Drops from the Void Slime capable of stabilizing space itself.
Perfect.
He whistled sharply.
"Vyrran."
The drake's head snapped toward him.
Agile and fast. She was faster than Korrak who has better brute strength.
Exactly what Lucien needed.
Lucien swung onto her back, pulling a handful of Anchor Stones into his grip.
'Corners. All of them. Go.'
Vyrran launched forward, weaving between the writhing tendrils like water flowing through cracks.
Lucien leaned into her motion, hurling Anchor Stones into position as they streaked past each target spot.
The tendrils lunged.
She twisted and surged on. Not a single lash touched them.
Lucien reached for another edge.
PROCRASTINATE.
The spell hit the Infinity Slime Boss.
Its rift creation stalled...
...for all of one second.
Lucien's eyes narrowed.
"So you can shrug that off, huh…"
Meanwhile, the Boss kept slipping in and out of rifts.
Untouchable.
Skittles, Oreo and Sparkles shifted tactics.
In a fluid move, Skittles and Oreo leapt onto Sparkles' back.
Now, they can focus solely on offense while Sparkles handled the dodging.
Lucien's eyes gleamed.
His pets were indeed smart.
The two casters began weaving their spells. Their mana flared brighter with each heartbeat.
Then...
Release.
They hurled the barrage at the Boss, right as Korrak lunged in to keep it occupied.
For a moment, it looked like the attack would land.
But the Infinity Slime Boss reacted instantly.
Its twin cores began to spin in a precise, rhythmic dance.
A shimmering pane of warped light bloomed in midair like a mirror made of pure space.
The spells slammed into it and vanished.
Then...
The Boss's twin cores shifted the pattern again. The mirror pulsed.
And then—
The very same magic burst back out… doubled in speed.
The Boss had turned their own attack against them.
Sparkles skywalked through the air. It moved with practiced precision to avoid the incoming barrage.
Meanwhile, Lucien finally began to see results of his actions...
The space around them was stabilizing.
One by one, the rifts snapped shut.
But there were still too many.
The battlefield was vast and even with Vyrran's speed, planting Anchor Stones took time.
Also, the looping tendrils lashed at them, slowing their progress.
Then... Korrak acted.
A sphere of fire magic swelled in his maw before he unleashed it at a rift.
To Lucien's surprise, the blaze didn't simply vanish.
It emerged from another rift across the field…
Only to plunge into yet another.
The flame ricocheted wildly through the network. Its path spiraled into chaos.
But the idea sparked something in Lucien.
Perfect Calculation was fully working.
The rifts weren't random.
They were connected...
An invisible web of gateways.
What entered one would always exit another.
Lucien tracked the fireball's unpredictable journey. His eyes sharpening with each jump… until the pattern clicked.
He grinned.
He could use this.
Lucien's eyes narrowed.
He finally had the pattern.
'Korrak. Force it into a rift!' he ordered.
The drake didn't hesitate. He drove the Infinity Slime back with a roaring wall of flame until it slipped into one of the tears.
Meanwhile, Lucien sent quick, precise commands to the others. Each positioned themselves exactly where he needed them.
The Boss emerged from the rift... right into the kill zone.
"Now!"
At his signal, Skittles, Oreo and Sparkles unleashed their magic in unison toward the exact point Lucien had calculated.
The spells landed before the Boss could even conjure its Spatial Mirror.
Its glossy surface rippled violently, leaving deep scorch marks and punctures.
The twin cores inside shuddered and their spinning halted for an instant... freezing the creature mid-movement.
Lucien's gaze locked on them.
'So that's it…'
Whenever the twin cores spun and orbited in specific rhythmic patterns, the Boss's abilities changed.
Now that he'd seen the sequence, he could predict its next moves.
And exploit them.
But then—
The twin cores began spinning again.
This time in an unfamiliar rhythm.
A new pattern. A new threat.
The air shifted. It became thick with pressure.
The Boss slashed through empty space and reality itself bent... forming razor-sharp spatial blades.
At first, there was only one.
Then, impossibly, the strike doubled.
Then doubled again. Two became four.
It wasn't just faster. It was as if the attack had duplicated itself in time.
Whatever the trick was, it was terrifyingly quick.
Lucien's pets weren't slow but even they had to twist and weave frantically to avoid the barrage.
And when a strike hit the floor, space rippled outward, throwing off their balance and sense of direction.
But Lucien was unfazed.
His plan was nearly complete.
The Anchor Stones were meticulously placed throughout the chamber.
One by one, the rifts shuddered and collapsed in on themselves.
Space knitted back together.
The looping tendrils vanished.
The battlefield stabilized.
Now it was just them and the Boss.
But then—
The Infinity Slime Boss reacted.
The moment the rifts began sealing, it shot backward with startling speed.
It hovered high in the air.
Its twin cores spun at a blistering pace, locking into a tight orbit.
In the center of that rotation… space warped.
And then they felt it.
A pull.
Everything in the chamber lurched toward the spinning cores.
Small and light objects were drawn into the swirling center.
Mini Lucien nearly went with them. He wrapped himself around Vyrran's back using the skill: Bear Hug.
Her massive frame barely shifted, the pull was too weak to drag her.
The Boss couldn't draw in heavy targets but lighter ones were in trouble.
Skittles and Oreo flailed in midair but Sparkles clutched them tight.
Korrak planted himself in front, shielding them from the force.
Then Lucien's eyes sharpened.
The Anchor Stones.
They were sliding across the ground. One by one, they were dragged toward the warp.
The moment they touched the warp...
CRUNCH.
They shattered. Crushed by an unfathomable force.
Lucien didn't hesitate.
'Korrak! Vyrran! Burn it!'
The two unleashed a roaring cascade of fire toward the Boss.
But then...
The fire blasts twisted off course, dragged into the warp's center… and disintegrated in a spray of sparks.
Lucien's gut dropped.
That's when Skittles moved.
It hopped forward.
Straight toward the pull!
It let the warp drag itself in.
Oreo froze for half a second then seemed to catch on. Light flared around Skittles as Oreo layered it with buffs.
Lucien's heart nearly stopped.
"Skittles!"
The little slime was already closing in on the Boss.
Then... just meters from the warp... it dug in, halting its drift with a sudden flex of its body mass.
In the next instant, a barrage of Slime Shots fired like a living artillery gun, splattering toward the Boss.
The Infinity Slime Boss stopped its pull... snapping out of the warp spin.
And it darted sideways to avoid the onslaught.
Lucien exhaled hard as tension bled out for just a heartbeat.
'Skittles… you daredevil maniac.'
But Skittles wasn't done.
It surged forward and slammed into the Boss with full force.
The Boss reeled, its gelatinous mass rippling from the impact.
Then Lucien's eyes widened.
Skittles' form was darkening. Its surface was corroding.
Decay Touch.
'Oreo. Now!'
Oreo's light magic flared, washing over Skittles. The corruption hissed and peeled away leaving the slime's form stable once more.
Chastened, Skittles didn't close for another melee strike. Instead, it anchored in place, pelting the Boss with a relentless hail of Slime Shots.
Lucien's gaze sharpened.
Through the haze of motion, he caught it.
The Boss's twin cores shifted in that familiar rhythm.
His pulse spiked.
Spatial Mirrors…
'Move! Now!'
His pets reacted instantly.
Skittles kept up the pressure with rapid Slime Shots, forcing the Boss's attention forward.
Behind it, Korrak was already in position. He opened his jaws and unleashed a blast of searing magic.
Vyrran mirrored him from one flank.
Sparkles took the other.
Oreo pulsed buffs into each strike, amplifying their force.
The Infinity Slime Boss wavered. The twin cores spun faster… and then the first mirror shimmered into being, greedily swallowing Skittles' shots.
But Lucien's allies were already locked on.
The Boss sensed the danger. Its cores spun again.
Lucien's lips curled in a razor smile.
"Not this time."
PROCRASTINATE.
Reality seemed to hitch.
The Boss froze mid-spin.
That was all they needed.
The air split with a deafening crack as three blasts struck home.
The slime's mass rippled violently under the impact. Chunks of its form sheared away in sizzling splatters.
For the first time, the Infinity Slime Boss let out a warped, trembling roar.
"Did we—"
Lucien cut himself off and smacked his own forehead. 'Stupid question.'
The smoke thinned.
And there it was.
The Infinity Slime stood… or rather, wobbled.
Its mass mangled.
A whole section of its body was missing, leaving one core exposed.
The swirling galaxy inside now looked like a storm of chaotic light.
Then...
Fwssh.
An hourglass materialized above the Boss.
The hum began low then rose into an ear-splitting screech as the ground quivered beneath them.
Lucien's eyes locked on the falling sand.
His stomach dropped.
"It's… regenerating!?"
Skittles moved first.
In a blur of motion, it launched forward as its body swelled for a full-force Slam.
But then...
Mid-leap, Skittles frozed.
Lucien's eyes narrowed. No… time itself was dragging around it.
Korrak roared and fired a blast of magic...
...only for the bolt to hang in the air like a frozen comet.
The battlefield had fallen into the Boss's rhythm now.
The Boss moved.
Its twin cores drifted toward each other... then locked. A resonant hum vibrated through the air.
They spun.
The space before it tore open.
From the shimmering wound in reality, another figure slid through.
Its gelatinous mass was eerily familiar.
Lucien's eyes widened.
"No way… Did it just summon its past self?!"
Before he could confirm, the original Infinity Slime began… shedding. Its flesh peeled away, stretching outward in all directions.
The discarded mass hardened into a shimmering shell. Spiderweb fissures streak across it as the very air inside warped.
In seconds, the Boss was sealed within its own pocket of space.
Korrak snarled and fired a magic blast.
The bolt vanished on contact with the fissures.
Lucien's jaw tightened.
He yanked out an anchor stone and hurled it.
It struck the barrier.
Crumbled to dust.
And fell lifeless to the ground.
Not even a ripple.
Skittles, now free from the slowing effect, slid back to Lucien's side.
The copy Infinity Slime moved first.
Lucien studied it closely.
Its presence was different.
Lighter.
The crushing, oppressive force of the original wasn't there.
He could already read its movements, the rhythm of its attacks.
Rifts split open one after another but this time they weren't a threat.
They were opportunities.
The gaps in space became shortcuts for their strikes allowing them to chain attacks faster than before.
Then Skittles, in true Skittles fashion, made a reckless choice.
It darted straight into a rift and popped out right beside the copy.
Lucien slapped a hand over his face. "Really…?"
But nothing disastrous happened. In fact, the slime pet landed its hit and wobbled back unscathed.
The others surged in.
With clean coordination, they overwhelmed the weakened copy. Their strikes tore it apart until it dissolved into scattered motes.
Lucien turned to the real Boss.
The space around it was… wrong.
Time and matter hung there like a frozen painting. Even sound seemed to die before touching it.
It was completely sealed. Untouchable.
The last grains of sand were slipping through the hourglass.
Lucien didn't know what would happen when they were gone...
...and he didn't want to find out.
Spell after spell slammed into the space fissure yet it didn't even ripple.
They tried moving closer but every instinct in Lucien screamed no.
One touch and his hand would be sliced into pieces.
He couldn't even name the spell.
The Space and Time Magic spells he'd read earlier offered nothing useful.
This wasn't normal magic. It felt… different.
Maybe... something like Eclipse Magic.
Then...
The final grain of sand fell.
A low hum rolled out.
The ground quivered.
The spiderweb of space fissures surrounding the Boss shattered like glass.
From within stepped the Infinity Slime.
Reborn.
But it was not the same.
Its twin cores had fused into one.
A dark singularity that pulsed slowly as if it were the heart of some cosmic beast.
It didn't move.
Time itself seemed to hold its breath.
And then...
