Chapter 877 The Last Mission: Truth Unfold II
Day Ninety-Two…
The dining area was engulfed with a deafening silence after Mr. Hiroshi revealed Mrs. Frost's identity.
Jane looked at her with disbelief. And yet Mrs. Frost could only lower her head, not uttering a word.
Meanwhile, Mystique and Iron Lady moved in front of Mrs. Frost, protecting her from Kazuki. Mystique held a knife, getting ready to throw it at Kazuki.
"Wait. Calm down, everyone. There might be a misunderstanding here," Black Rose spoke up to mediate among them. She also glanced at Jane, asking for her help.
But Jane was also confused and shaken. After a few seconds, Jane held Kazuki's hand, gesturing for him to put down the gun.
"Uncle, Let's talk this out. I have to know the truth. And I should listen to her explanation first. She was the one who took care of me… and raised me…"
Jane didn't know what she would feel at this moment. She had complicated emotions. She considered Mrs. Frost as her mother. But now, her biological father was telling her that this woman was the one who assassinated her biological mother.
With Jane's pleading voice, Kazuki put his gun back into its holster. But he remained cautious and alert to guard Mr. Hiroshi and Jane against potential threats. For them, Mrs. Frost was an enemy.
"Jane…" Mr. Hiroshi called her when she made a move. He didn't want her to come closer to Mrs. Frost.
"Pa, it's fine. Mrs. Frost will not hurt me." Jane reassured him.
Mystique and Iron Lady heaved a sigh of relief. Then they stepped to the side, allowing Jane to approach Mrs. Frost who remained silent in her spot.
"Mother… tell me. Is it true?" Jane confronted her, her voice trembling. "D-Did you kill my mother?" she held her shoulders, demanding an answer.
Mrs. Frost clenched her fists. There was a heavy burden in her heart. She didn't know how she would answer that question.
"Don't call her Mother," Mr. Hiroshi said through his gritted teeth.
He had been tracking this assassin for so long. Who would have thought she was living together with his missing daughter?
It did not take long before Mrs. Frost shed some tears. Guilt could be seen in her eyes.
"Yes, Jane. It was me. I was the one who took your mother's life. I was hired to kill her." Mrs. Frost finally confessed.
Jane was at a loss for words. She shook her head in denial. In her past life, she never learned who killed her mother. She didn't expect that the truth would be uncovered in this timeline.
Mrs. Frost had been preventing this from happening. She thought she would be able to bring her secret to death because she didn't want to hurt Jane. And she didn't want to be hated by her.
Tears flowed down her cheeks, and Mrs. Frost dropped to her knees in front of Jane.
"I'm so sorry, Jane. I have to kill your mother. It's my job. It's my profession. I know I deserve to die. I hid this from you for so long. Every time I see you, I am reminded of my crime…"
"I took you because I couldn't kill an innocent child. I decided to raise you like my own daughter. I never imagined that this moment would come… I'm so sorry, Jane."
"Who called the hit? Who ordered you to kill my wife?' Mr. Hiroshi yelled at her. After thoroughly investigating the case, Mr. Hiroshi found a lead, and the evidence consistently pointed to Mrs. Frost—a mysterious assassin.
"The founder of the Red Dragon Mafia… Arthur Wayne." Mrs. Frost revealed the mastermind behind the assassination of Mr. Hiroshi's wife. Arthur Wayne was Alexander's grandfather.
Things became clearer now to Hiroshi. The Red Dragon Mafia and the Sawada Clan were the two powerhouses in Country J. But he didn't expect that Arthur Wayne was the person behind the assassination.
The Red Dragon Mafia had been trying to build an alliance with the Sawada Clan. Fortunately, Mr. Hiroshi didn't accept their offer.
'Fuck! That sly old man! He stabbed me in the back!' Mr. Hiroshi clenched his fists tightly.
"I will avenge your mother's death," Mr. Hiroshi mumbled with conviction.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Frost snatched the knife from Mystique's hand. She handed it over to Jane.
"I know I must pay for my crime. Jane… I understand if you can't forgive me. Nothing can justify my actions. I took away the precious person in your life. I can only give you my life, in return. I will appreciate it if I will die in your hands." Mrs. Frost closed her eyes. She was willing to die to pay for her sin.
Jane gripped the knife tightly as she stared at Mrs. Frost. She was in pain right now, hurt by her betrayal. But she couldn't bring herself to kill Mrs. Frost.
Jane was raised by her. She filled the gap in her heart when Mrs. Frost acted as her mother. Furthermore, she knew the life of an assassin.
Just like Mrs. Frost, Jane had killed so many people. And they were both following an order from their clients, in exchange for money. It was their way to survive and live.
Mrs. Frost killed her mother since she was the one who received the job order. Of course, she hated her. But at the same time, she still owed her. Mrs. Frost saved her life and took care of her.
Jane dropped the knife to the floor as she crouched down, pulling Mrs. Frost up.
"I won't kill you. I owed you my life. We are now even."
After saying that, Jane turned to her father. "Pa… I have no right to judge Mrs. Frost. Because just like her… I had become an assassin. My alias… is Phantomflake." Jane confessed to her father.
"Both of us killed for money," she added and smiled bitterly.
Mr. Hiroshi and Kazuki were surprised by Jane's identity. They've heard of that name. Phantomflake was an infamous assassin, feared by many. Her reputation was known in the underground world.
"Pa… can you respect my decision? Mrs. Frost expressed her remorse and regret. It's time to let it go… Pa." Even if he still held a grudge against Mrs. Frost, Mr. Hiroshi couldn't refuse his daughter's solemn request.
"I understand, Jane. I won't harm her." Mr. Hiroshi gave her his word.
