Xianxia: Big Brother of Tianyong City

Chapter 27 - Why Haven’t You Left Yet?

Chapter 27: Why Haven’t You Left Yet?

At that moment, the black wind that the fox spirit had transformed into had already drifted beyond Blackrock Town’s borders and entered the dense wilderness of the mountains. Sensing Xiao Yu in pursuit, she surged deeper into the forest at an even faster pace.

However, Xiao Yu was a Golden Core cultivator, and his sword-flight speed was extraordinary. The gap between them rapidly narrowed. Just as he was about to overtake the fox spirit, she abruptly descended from her cloud, landing in a forest clearing below.

“Oh? Not fleeing anymore?”

Seeing her land, Xiao Yu followed suit, touching down amidst the tranquil woods. Moonlight filtered through the canopy above, illuminating the fox spirit. She had almost fully assumed human form, save for the three tails swaying behind her, their fur smooth and as white as frost—a striking sight to behold.

“Young man, you are quite the handsome one, chasing me so persistently,” she remarked, her voice soft and alluring, her gaze enchanting.

“Sometimes, I truly envy you humans. Born as the apex of all creatures, your most exceptional individuals can, with just a few decades of cultivation, surpass what we demons achieve through centuries of arduous effort. This world truly is unfair.”

The three-tailed white fox’s eyes shimmered with a watery tenderness as she gazed seductively at Xiao Yu.

“If you recognise yourself as part of the demon race, then you should remain in the mountains, not come down to trouble human towns and inflict misery upon others,” Xiao Yu replied.

Demons belonged in the wilderness, just as humans belonged in their towns and villages. Each being in the world had its place, and to upset this order was to defy the heavens—a law none could breach.

“If our fox clan’s homeland hadn’t been destroyed, my elder brother and I wouldn’t have been reduced to this state, stealing to survive. Perhaps this is what you humans call destiny.”

The three-tailed white fox let out a bitter laugh, her smile tinged with a sorrow that suggested unspoken pain.

Her home, Mount Huqi, had long since been laid to ruin. Ever since then, she and her elder brother had been homeless, fleeing from place to place, their days shrouded in darkness. It wasn’t a life she wanted either.

“I, Xiao Yu, do not believe in destiny—I believe only that human effort can triumph over the heavens,” Xiao Yu declared firmly. “From what I can see, your nature isn’t inherently evil. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have limited yourself to stealing livestock instead of harming humans. I can give you two fasting pills to sustain you and your brother for several years without hunger, but you must swear an oath never to disturb humans again.”

Fasting pills were part of Xiao Yu’s monthly stipend from the administrative hall after reaching the Golden Core stage.

To Tianyong City, renowned for its mastery of alchemy, such pills were not particularly rare. Yet to demons, they were of immense value.

“Fasting pills? Truly?”

The fox spirit’s expression froze as she stared at Xiao Yu in disbelief.

She couldn’t fathom why this man, instead of killing her, was offering her such a gift.

Whoosh!

With a light slap on his storage pouch, Xiao Yu summoned two pills, which floated gently toward the fox spirit.

“They’re real fasting pills!”

Recognising them instantly, the fox spirit’s face lit up with joy. She had once glimpsed such pills during her time on Mount Huqi and could discern their authenticity.

Gulp!

She swallowed the pills eagerly, and, as expected, the gnawing hunger in her stomach vanished instantly.

“Thank you, Immortal Master!”

The three-tailed fox bowed deeply, gratitude etched across her face.

“Don’t forget your promise,” Xiao Yu reminded her sternly.

This was a transaction. Xiao Yu provided the fasting pills to alleviate her hunger, and in return, she was to swear never to harm humans again.

“Under the heavens and upon the earth, with the sun and moon as witnesses, I swear by the name of Mount Huqi that I shall never again harm humans. Should I break this vow, may I face complete annihilation, body and soul!”

The three-tailed white fox knelt under the moonlight and swore earnestly.

“Very well. I will spare your life. You may leave now.”

Xiao Yu sheathed his sword, his murderous aura dissipating entirely.

Having consumed the fasting pills and sworn a deadly oath, the fox spirit was no longer a threat to the livestock of Blackrock Town. Peace would return to the village.

Xiao Yu had been deeply moved by the fox’s story when he first read about it in the original text. Now, having encountered her in real life, he decided to lend her a hand.

“Thank you, Immortal Master.”

The fox spirit thanked him once more before transforming back into her true form—a white fox with three bushy tails. Step by step, she walked deeper into the forest.

However, she did not truly leave. She lingered at the edge of the clearing, hesitant, as though something weighed heavily on her mind.

“Why haven’t you left yet?”

Xiao Yu frowned slightly.

Hearing his question, the fox spirit transformed once more into her human form. Her watery gaze softened as she spoke:

“Immortal Master, you are unlike others who shout for my death at first sight. You are compassionate and willing to help those in need. My elder brother is gravely injured, his life hanging by a thread. I beg you, please save him.”

As she spoke, the fox spirit knelt on the ground, tears streaking her cheeks.

Her brother’s wounds were severe, and she had tried every possible remedy. Desperation drove her to plead with Xiao Yu.
