Chapter 44 - Night Shift in the Warehouse, the Predecessor's Notebook?
Looking at the shriveled skin on his hand, He Gu was taken aback for a moment, then his face changed dramatically.
This was the flesh of his face!
Had it… been scratched off!?
The scene of a chunk of flesh being torn from his face flashed through He Gu’s mind, and he let out a strange shout and stood up abruptly.
“My face!”
At the same time, He Gu panicked and reached out to touch his face, indeed feeling a wet sticky sensation, and a slight burning pain.
Just as He Gu was in a state of panic, the Supervisor sitting across the table gave him a glance and said indifferently, “Don’t panic, that’s the Medicine Skin taking effect.”
He Gu was too preoccupied to listen at this point, frantically pulling out his phone from his pocket, turning on the front camera, and using it as a mirror to look at his face.
And the next moment, He Gu was stunned.
On his right cheek, there was a small amount of pale yellow semi-transparent liquid, and the wound that had been scratched by the cat on his right cheek was gone, leaving only a few faint marks that were almost invisible.
He Gu paused for a moment, hurriedly wiped the liquid off his face, and found his face was intact!
The Supervisor said indifferently, “I told you, that’s the effect of the Medicine Skin, your facial injury has been healed.”
He Gu looked at the Supervisor in bewilderment, “Medicine Skin? The black stuff I just ate?”
The Supervisor nodded, “Medicine Skin has the effect of activating blood circulation, removing necrosis and promoting granulation. It’s normal for the medicine to work quickly since it’s your first time taking it.”
After hearing the Supervisor’s words, He Gu was dumbfounded.
He had only been injured yesterday!
At that time, the skin and flesh had been turned over, and half of his face was swollen!
He’d only swallowed the “Medicine Skin” ten minutes ago, and the wound had already healed!?
What on earth was this “Medicine Skin”!?
Even elixirs couldn’t be this effective, could they!?
Just as He Gu was shocked, he suddenly noticed that the corners of the mouth of the person sitting diagonally opposite him, 441, were slightly raised, and there was a strange expression in his eyes.
This gave He Gu a chill down his spine, suddenly remembering the Hidden Message he had just seen: What heals you could also be poison.
…
The Supervisor stood up and patted He Gu on the shoulder, “Calm down, there are many more surprising things in our factory, no need to be so shocked.”
Having said that, the Supervisor glanced at 441 and told He Gu, “You just arrived, you should have started with the day shift.”
“But now our team is short of hands, we can’t keep up with the scheduling, so you’ll have to start the night shift tonight.”
He Gu, still stunned by the “Medicine Skin”, nodded dumbly.
When he came to his senses, He Gu asked again, “By the way, I still don’t know what our department is? What is our main job?”
The Supervisor said indifferently, “We are Storage Department Group Four, mainly responsible for the work of the raw material warehouse. I’ll explain the specifics when we get there.”
Having said that, the Supervisor looked at 441 with a cold face, “Let’s go, it’s time to work.”
441 immediately stood up, standing aside like a child who had done something wrong.
The Supervisor glanced at him, turned around, and walked towards the outside of the Canteen.
He Gu hurriedly followed the Supervisor’s pace, while 441 hung back a little, appearing somewhat scared.
The journey was silent.
After following the Supervisor for more than twenty minutes, and bypassing two old factories, He Gu saw a very strange building.
It was a rectangular structure that looked like a matchbox.
The reason it was strange was because the building was very large!
It was a massive “matchbox” that was four to five hundred meters long, one to two hundred meters wide, and four to five meters high!
On one side of the matchbox were twenty to thirty Warehouses.
The Supervisor led He Gu to a warehouse door marked with the green number “44”. He took out a key to open the warehouse, pointing inside and told He Gu, “This will be your watch post tonight.”
As he spoke, the Supervisor turned on the warehouse lights.
The warehouse wasn’t particularly large, roughly half the size of a basketball court.
Inside, numerous wooden boxes were piled, some of them covered with tarpaulin.
At the entrance of the warehouse sat an old wooden table and a chair, the latter cushioned with a worn-out sponge pad.
On the table, there was a handheld scanning gun, a pen holder, some scattered draft papers, and a chipped portable radio.
What puzzled He Gu was the presence of two objects resembling airport security scanners at the far end of the warehouse.
However, these two “scanners” were embedded in the wall, with one end of the conveyor belt outside and the other end leading directly into the wall.
“What are those?” He Gu asked, pointing at the two “scanners”.
The Supervisor glanced over, “Those are the goods inlets. The preliminary sorted raw materials here will be directly sent to the workshop for further sorting and initial processing via the conveyor belt of the goods inlet.”
He Gu nodded slightly, “So, our job is to sort the raw materials and send them to the goods inlet?”
The Supervisor shook his head, “That’s the day shift’s job.”
“The night shift mainly serves for watching and receiving goods.”
After saying this, the Supervisor picked up the handheld scanner from the table and handed it to He Gu, “There will be trucks delivering goods at night. When they arrive, you need to check their warehouse entry codes. As long as the code starts with 44, you can accept it.”
“Scan the received goods with this scanning gun. If the scanner displays green, pile them in Area A. If it shows blue, pile them in Area B. Remember, no matter what happens, you must never open any box!”
At this point, the supervisor paused, then added, “If…”
“I mean if, if the scanning result is red, then immediately leave the warehouse, close the door, and call me on the intercom!”
Hearing this, He Gu felt a slight tension in his heart, and asked in a low voice, “Supervisor, what do the colors green, blue, and red represent?”
The Supervisor glanced at He Gu, “Just do your job, no need to worry about the rest.”
With that, the Supervisor turned and walked towards the door, adding as he left, “I’ll leave this place to you tonight. You’ll get off work at six o’clock tomorrow morning. You’re not allowed to leave your post before then.”
“In the first half of the night, you can take a little rest. Just don’t sleep too soundly, they usually deliver goods in the second half of the night.”
“If there’s any trouble, call me on the intercom.”
Leaving these words behind, the Supervisor had already left the No. 44 warehouse.
He Gu looked around the empty warehouse, feeling a sudden chill in his heart.
He took a deep breath, wandered around in the warehouse, but didn’t find any new rules.
Then He Gu sat at the table by the door, took out his phone, and prepared to kill time by watching some short videos.
However, he quickly found out that the signal here was extremely poor. Even the 2G network only had two bars. Videos were out of the question, he couldn’t even load images.
Considering that this pharmaceutical factory was located in the mountains of the suburbs, He Gu gave up on the idea of using his phone. No wonder everyone was equipped with an intercom!
Out of boredom, He Gu started to fiddle with the radio on the table.
To his surprise, the radio actually had signal!
Although there were only four channels, three of which were late-night emotional talk shows.
He Gu turned to the fourth channel, which was playing music from an unknown era non-stop. It was unexpectedly pleasant to listen to.
So there he was, listening to the music from the radio, staring at the dimly lit asphalt road outside the warehouse door, lost in thought.
After a while, He Gu suddenly felt an uncomfortable hardness beneath him from the sponge cushion.
He Gu reached down to feel it, discovering that there seemed to be something inside the cushion.
After flipping the cushion over for a bit, He Gu quickly unearthed a crumpled notebook from within.
Upon opening the first page, He Gu was immediately taken aback.
