Chapter 034: Angel’s Wings · Angel’s Tears.
“The flower is in one of these barrels.”
Mu Liang pointed to the twelve barrels on the table. However, he wasn’t sure which barrel contained the flower.
“Can I… Can I open them?”
Liyue opened her small mouth, hurriedly explaining, “I’m just looking for the flower with wings. I won’t touch anything else.”
“Go ahead,” Mu Liang said, waving his hand casually.
With his current strength, was he supposed to fear a little girl playing tricks?
Besides, from Mu Liang’s life experience, the white-haired girl seemed to be a child pretending to act like a grown-up.
“Thank you,” Liyue said politely.
“Take your time searching. I won’t help you.”
Mu Liang patted her shoulder and said softly, “I need to help move the rest of the items inside.”
Otherwise, leaving it to the bunny-eared girl alone would mean working late into the night to get everything inside.
When Mino saw Mu Liang approaching, her expression froze in amazement, clearly shocked by the sheer amount of stuff the two beasts were carrying.
She timidly asked, “Mu Liang, did you move Bloodbeard’s entire house here?”
“Not everything.”
Mu Liang thought of the pile of dried meat in Bloodbeard’s room and shook his head. “I only took about a tenth of it.”
“Oh… If it’s just a tenth, it doesn’t seem like much.”
Mino tapped her chin with a finger and beamed, “Even if it’s not a lot, it’ll last us a long time.”
“…” Liyue, while opening the barrels, kept an ear on their conversation near the door.
Her lips twitched, and she couldn’t help but think to herself, They really are a family, aren’t they? Stealing all of Bloodbeard’s important stuff and still thinking it’s not much.
Mu Liang and Mino cut the spider silk securing the bundles on the two beasts. One by one, they transported the cocoons filled with dried meat to a corner of the hall.
Rolls of cloth were stacked in another corner, and miscellaneous items were placed in a third corner.
The fourth corner was occupied by the hearth.
By the end, the hall was so packed that only the area around the table was left for walking.
“This house is too small,” Mu Liang muttered, frowning at the nearly overflowing hall. He began planning to construct a storage facility.
“It’s not small. It’s just right,” Mino said, satisfied as she wandered around touching things like a little miser.
Seeing the hall filled with items would make anyone happy every day.
Clang!
The sound of something hitting the floor interrupted their conversation.
“What happened?”
Mu Liang turned to look and saw the white-haired girl staring blankly at a barrel. Her hands were stiff in mid-air, and a barrel lid lay on the floor.
“D-dead… Angel’s Wings.”
Liyue turned her trembling head, her silver eyes dull as she stared at Mu Liang, despair written all over her face.
“Angel’s Wings? That’s the name of the flower?”
Mu Liang frowned and stepped forward to look into the barrel. Inside was a flower, nearly withered and drooping.
Upon closer inspection, he noticed petals resembling wings. No wonder it was figuratively called Angel’s Wings.
But the flower looked lifeless now.
Seeing the despondent white-haired girl, Mu Liang asked gently, “Liyue, why do you need this flower?”
Lowering her head, Liyue replied in a hoarse voice, “Angel’s Wings produces a drop of dew called ‘Angel’s Tears’ every ten days. It’s a highly precious panacea that can cure many diseases.”
“Do you really believe in something like a panacea?” Mu Liang frowned.
Even if such a thing existed, the name alone was enough to raise doubts.
“It’s real! Many people have said so,”
Liyue said, her voice trembling as she looked up with tear-filled silver eyes, trying to hold back her emotions.
“So you’re hoping to heal the crimson markings on your face?” Mu Liang asked, pursing his lips.
“Not a complete cure… Just stopping the spread of the ‘Void Ghost’s infection’ would be enough.”
Liyue’s hands trembled as she gripped the crimson markings on her face.
Even she doubted the existence of a panacea, but she felt compelled to try.
What if it’s real?
Her fingers dug into her face as she sobbed uncontrollably. “I don’t have much time left… I’ll turn into a monster-like Void Ghost in six months.”
The white-haired girl had spent a long time investigating and tracking down the flower. She learned that Bloodbeard had obtained a seed of Angel’s Wings a year ago.
She guessed he had either grown the flower or kept the seed.
Obtaining the flower or the seed was her only hope of extending her and her companions’ lives.
But reality was cruel. It gave hope, only to crush it.
“Don’t take it out on yourself. Don’t you still have six months?”
Mu Liang grasped her wrist firmly and said seriously, “Besides, it’s not like the flower can’t be revived.”
“It’s impossible to revive it.” Liyue shook her head weakly.
The Angel’s Wings in the barrel was at the end of its life.
“Says who?” Mu Liang chuckled softly.
He reached out to touch the withered Angel’s Wings, and a familiar voice echoed in his mind.
“Ding! Detecting a tamable plant. Would you like to tame it?”
“Tame it,” Mu Liang responded calmly in his mind.
“Ding! Detecting Level 1 lifeform: Angel’s Wings. Taming in progress…”
“Ding! 10 taming points consumed. Taming successful.”
Mu Liang raised his eyebrows in surprise. He hadn’t expected Angel’s Wings to start as a Level 1 lifeform.
“Ding! Would you like to inherit the Angel’s Wings ability: Angel’s Tears?”
“Inherit,” Mu Liang replied with a peculiar expression.
“Ding! Angel’s Tears ability undergoing refinement… Adaptation in progress… Inheritance complete.”
Liyue, with her head lowered, hadn’t noticed Mu Liang’s actions.
She muttered sadly, “I’ve never heard of Angel’s Wings being revived after withering.”
“Just because you haven’t heard of it doesn’t mean it’s impossible.” Mu Liang shoved the barrel into her arms.
“Ah?” Liyue instinctively hugged the barrel.
The next second,
her silver eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the barrel’s contents. The Angel’s Wings, vibrant and outspread, had come back to life.
“It really is Angel’s Wings. How is this possible?”
Liyue clutched the barrel tightly, blinking furiously as if afraid it was an illusion.
“Nothing is impossible,” Mu Liang said blandly.
“It was you… You revived Angel’s Wings,” Liyue said, looking up suddenly. Her silver eyes sparkled with admiration, and she gazed at Mu Liang as if he were a deity.
“Now, are you going to explain what the ‘Void Ghost’s infection’ is all about?”
Mu Liang asked, his curiosity about the mysterious ailment undiminished.
