Only My Dungeon Equipment Levels Up! (SSS-Rank Weapons)

Chapter 45 - A Part-time Job? No, It's Confinement

“I will contact you in two weeks! Thank you for considering it!”

Nezu bowed until we were out of sight after sending us off at the station.

I told Nezu to contact us again in two weeks as we would consider it seriously.

Tanaka seemed to have conveyed the same, so the conversation proceeded smoothly.

“Big brother, can we really live in such a place?”

“Senior! If I can live there, I will follow you for life! So let’s live there!”

“Well, it depends on the discussion with Tanaka.”

Swaying on the train, Reina and I headed towards Tanaka, while everyone else went home.

(We will probably end up signing the contract, as Tanaka planned.)

I felt like we were being read too easily, but our opponent is someone who built a company representing Japan in one generation.

Even though Kenya has special abilities, there’s no way he could compete in strategies and tactics on such a level.

“Did you like it, Reina?”

“Yes, I thought it was a beautiful place.”

“That’s good.”

If Reina liked it, there’s no problem. Now, all that remains is…

“Well, I’m going to Tanaka’s place.”

“Okay!” “See you later, big brother.”

As before, I went to Tanaka’s company, Weapon Headquarters.

Reina was pushing my wheelchair as usual.

Just like before, we were guided to Tanaka’s room.

“Hello, Kenya, Reina, welcome. How was the room?”

Tanaka stood up as soon as I entered the room and started preparing to go outside.

“It was an amazing room, like a Cinderella story. From a 10-mat room to a billion-yen mansion.”

“Haha, it’s not a glass slipper but the king’s gauntlet. There’s a car waiting outside. Let’s go.”

We got into the car.

It was a black luxury car, spacious inside, almost like champagne would pop out at any moment.

It looked like a music video where girls would be lounging around.

“So, are the two of you getting along well?”

“Getting along… well, yeah.”

Reina and I exchanged glances.

We didn’t have any words, but Reina nodded.

Seeing that, Tanaka smiled and nodded as well.

“Good. When your injury heals in two weeks, are you aiming for the higher floors?”

“Yes, with Reina, I think we can aim for the 30th floor or even higher.”

“That’s good. Both your abilities and Reina’s abilities are still developing. Grow quickly and make me more money. Show me the view from the top one day.”

Regarding Reina, her job level is still at 1.

I still don’t fully understand my new abilities. Although I can now alchemize A-rank equipment, my current equipment is still B-rank.

We must always be prepared, as we never know when an irregular like an extra boss will appear.

We never know when we might be swallowed by the dungeon’s unfathomable malice.

“We’re here.”

We were taken to the port.

Containers and warehouses lined up as far as the eye could see.

We were brought to the edge of Tokyo Bay, right in front of a dungeon.

“So, Tanaka, what do you mean by a good part-time job?”

The term “good part-time job” could also mean a bad one, but I couldn’t imagine Tanaka tricking Kenya.

“Well, follow me.”

Then I was guided into a large warehouse.

Inside, cardboard boxes were piled high on the shelves.

How many were there? I couldn’t see the end.

“Tanaka, what is this place…”

Then Tanaka took out a box and opened it.

Inside…

“There are many soldier series items that are damaged, returned, or used and couldn’t be disposed of.”

(Are all these boxes filled with soldier series items!? How many are there?)

Twenty years have passed since the dungeon appeared.

There were no more commonly unearthed items than the soldier series, and the market was saturated.

Because the equipment wasn’t very powerful, not many people bought them used.

“With your new power, you can increase the number of alchemizations per day, right?”

(That should be possible. It means converting all abilities into intelligence through status alchemy. That would increase the number of alchemizations per day.)

“Then you know what to do, right?”

“In other words…?”

“All the equipment here is yours. You can do whatever you want with it. I will buy the king series at the same price as delivery.”

Looking at the mountain of equipment and the sea of cardboard boxes, the dark warehouse, the desk, and the futon…

“Kenya, alchemize continuously for two weeks! You can easily earn the money for that mansion!”

“Does that mean I should stay here!?”

“It’s for the dream home. You’re young. Let’s work hard!”

Tanaka said, squeezing my shoulder as I sat in the wheelchair.

“But school…”

“It’s only two weeks. You can take a break for a big injury. Besides, I dropped out myself, so you’ll be fine.”

I’m not sure what he means by “fine,” but since I’m injured and in a wheelchair, it’s okay to take two weeks off.

Is that what the futon is for? He’s too prepared.

“Reina, can you support him for a while? You can even stay here if you want. In the same futon.”

Tanaka suggested with a mischievous laugh.

He looked like a skilled CEO turned pervy old man.

“Yes, I don’t mind.”

“No, no, you wouldn’t want to share the same futon, right…”

(But I can’t unload those items from the shelves by myself…)

“Don’t you like it? I think Reina is beautiful…”

“I’m sorry… It’s my fault…”

Reina and Tanaka looked sad.

Why are you sad too, Tanaka? Reina, stop joking; she looks like she’s going to cry.

“That’s not it! It’s not that I don’t like being with Reina. I just thought Reina might not like it.”

“Well, I have another futon prepared.”

Tanaka said and pulled out another futon, laying it next to the first one.

Then he turned to us and gave a thumbs up.

(What’s with that smug face and thumb? Can I break it?)

“Enjoy yourselves, Kenya. But avoid strenuous exercise to not worsen your injury.”

(Cut it out, you pervy old man.)

With that, Tanaka turned into a skilled pervy old man in Kenya’s mind.

It might be common for older men to make such remarks as they age.

Also, what’s with those futons? They form a heart pattern when placed together.

“Tanaka, please stop teasing.”

“Sorry, at this age, I feel like bringing young people together. Haha! I’m like a matchmaker uncle.”

Laughing loudly, Tanaka left, leaving us with the keys.

He said he would check the situation again in two weeks on Saturday.

As he was leaving, he whispered to me,

“Also, Kenya, if Reina can talk to you about her past, use this…”

Tanaka handed me a smartphone.

It looked old, probably more than ten years old.

“What is this?”

“A letter to the future. Reina doesn’t know it exists. The original contractor ‘Sugar’s’ representative kept it hidden. It’s difficult timing, but when she faces her past again, listen to it together if possible.”

“…Understood.”

“It’s something only you can do. I’m counting on you.”

When I turned it on, a recording screen appeared.

I promised Tanaka that if Reina could talk about her past and face it, we would listen to it together.

Hearing that, Tanaka smiled and left.

We were left in a dim warehouse with soldier series items.

A desk, two futons, a wheelchair, and Reina and me.

“Sigh… I guess we have to do it. Sorry, Reina. It’s a hassle, right?”

“No, I’m… happy… huh?”

“…What?”

Reina tilted her head in confusion.

She seemed to be questioning her feelings.

Silence flowed between us.

We stared at each other in the quiet, dim warehouse, entrusting each other’s lives.

In front of us lay the heart-shaped futon.

Something was bound to happen, and our hearts beat faster.
