Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 42 - It's All for Survival, No Right or Wrong

After waking up, Wu Ge immediately ordered Xiao Chao to search all regions nationwide and even globally, attempting to find the demons that came from the second space to reality.

With over sixty thousand demons in that demon kingdom, such a powerful army, if arriving on Earth with malicious intent, would pose a significant challenge to the development of Earth’s civilization.

Of course, if they were willing to seek peace and join the Earth’s races, Wu Ge would not mind living peacefully with them.

However, after a comprehensive search by Xiao Chao, no results were found, which caused Wu Ge to frown.

What exactly happened in the demon kingdom? Why haven’t they appeared yet? Or is it that my dream is a prophetic one, and these demons are about to appear in reality?

Wu Ge did not know what to do; all he could do was be vigilant.

But, several days later, Wu Ge began dreaming again. In this dream, Wu Ge was still the tiger demon, but this time, he was no longer a member of the resistance but a member of the escape faction.

The demon who spread the word about humans disappearing had been executed by the council of elders, who declared: “Humans are far more powerful than you can imagine. Do not believe the lies about humans disappearing. Once you leave this space, you will be exterminated by the powerful armies of humans. Only by living in this pure land can we find our only way!”

However, the news had already spread, and powerful warriors like the tiger demon, unwilling to sit and wait for death, would never give up their precious lives if there was any other way.

Thus, the demon kingdom was divided into the escape faction and the stay-behind faction. The tyrant was rescued by the escape faction and joined them, while the stay-behind faction was led by the tiger demon’s elder brother. The tiger demon, looking at his former enemy, felt a whirlwind of emotions. Just yesterday, he planned to subdue the tyrant, but today, they had become comrades in arms. His former comrades and brothers had now become his enemies.

Indeed, the affairs of the world are unpredictable.

The escape faction and the stay-behind faction waged a great war. The demon kingdom, once boasting a population of one hundred thousand, saw its numbers dwindle to twenty thousand after two great battles, with countless demons sacrificed.

Their only goal was survival.

The tiger demon became the leader of the escape faction. He had to lead the escape faction to seize the artifact, open the space gate, and escape to a world without humans.

The tiger demon was not afraid of death. What he feared was that his wife and children would not be cared for, that he could no longer reunite with his family. The tyrant’s goal was simple: he was afraid of death. He wanted to live, even if only for one more day.

Thus, the two strongest warriors of the demon kingdom joined forces. Along with seven other equally powerful warriors, they launched an attack on the stay-behind faction.

But their fate was destined to be one of despair…

One year after the war began, the tiger demon, with his defeated troops, fled back to the escape faction’s stronghold. Covered in blood, he found his wife and children and shouted, “Run, take the wives and children of all the soldiers of the escape faction, and flee to the border. You must survive; you are the last hope of the escape faction!”

The tiger demon’s wife, a fox demon, saved by the tiger demon. She looked at his wounds with pity and asked, “What happened?”

Anger filled the tiger demon’s face, but his eyes were gentle as water. He said, “That dog of an emperor betrayed us. He just wanted to survive. The council of elders promised to use other warriors in his place, so he betrayed us!”

The shift from enemy to ally to enemy again was too rapid; the tiger demon had no trustworthy companions by his side.

“Run!” the tiger demon shouted. “The enemy is about to catch up. You are our last hope!”

The fox demon did not hesitate much; she knew what to do. She took charge of all the wives and children of the warriors of the escape faction. She was truly the tiger demon’s wife, not weeping or hesitating as other women might. She was incredibly strong and said, “My lord, we, we are leaving!”

The tiger demon’s seven-year-old son stepped forward, rubbing his eyes: “Father, what happened?”

The fox demon hugged him, and at this moment, she finally couldn’t hold back her tears, swirling in her eyes. She gently said, “Your father is going to do the greatest thing, you first go to the border with your mother, okay?”

The little boy struggled, saying urgently, “Father, what are you going to do? Don’t you want us anymore?”

The tiger spirit showed a gentle expression, touched his child’s head, and said, “Little Tiger, you must become strong, strong enough to protect your mother, understand? I… Little Tiger, you must become strong!”

After speaking, the tiger spirit turned and left. He opened the door, and the cloak was instantly whipped by the cold wind from outside, the north wind howled as if the heavens and earth were mourning.

A bear warrior brought a white horse. The tiger demon’s wife, carrying the child, walked out and was then lifted onto the back of the white horse by the tiger demon with his strong arms.

The tiger demon said, “Hold the reins tight, this horse has a wild temperament.”

The wild-tempered white horse was exceptionally quiet, as if it knew its master would not return.

In the military camp, numerous warriors’ wives and children, already packed, walked out. The tiger demon ordered all the horses to be brought out and had these women and children mount them.

Being from the demon kingdom, of course, the women could ride horses. The tiger demon slapped the horse’s behind hard, and the white horse neighed loudly before starting to gallop towards the border, leading the other horses in a frantic dash.

Unable to bear watching the scene of parting with his wife and child any longer, the tiger demon turned around, his face suddenly filled with a solemn intent. He stepped forward and shouted, “Warriors, follow me into battle, to buy time for our wives and children!”

Countless warriors showed a resolute expression, some with broken arms, some with half their faces torn off, but at this moment, none wavered. They were ready to block the enemy with their leader, to buy time for their wives and children.

The tiger demon led this group of battered soldiers to the frontline, facing the approaching army and his elder brother, who had fought alongside him before. The tiger demon raised his broadsword high and loudly said, “Brothers, we fight to the death, never to surrender!”

The warriors raised their broadswords high, shouting, “Fight to the death, never to surrender!”

The tiger demon paused, then his voice deepened. He looked into the distance, his heart seemingly trembling. Facing the rapidly approaching army, he felt the most sincere presence of death. His voice grew from soft to loud as he said, “Brothers… standing side by side with you is my honor!”

With the last words “my honor” shouted very loudly, countless warriors were inspired by this phrase, shouting, “Kill!”
