Chapter 682 Underground Adventure (Part One)
Halfway there, Gao Fei communicated with Xuan Jizi using Mental Power.
"The secret technique to alter memories is indeed very effective," Gao Fei said. "But I have some concerns."
"What are you worried about?" Xuan Jizi asked.
"I'm worried that He Hentian might regain his original memories in the future."
"That's impossible. Once the memory is altered, it can't be restored."
"Really? No hope at all?"
"Yes, human nerves are very fragile. Once damaged, it's difficult to repair."
"Then I'm relieved," Gao Fei said, finally able to let go of his tension.
...
An hour later.
He Hentian stopped and said, "Here, the treasure hideout is right ahead! Now you can have a good look."
"Oh?" Gao Fei looked up and nearly burst his eyeballs, asking in astonishment, "The treasure hideout you're talking about... is this the place? Are you sure there's no mistake?"
"Haha..." He Hentian laughed heartily, looking up to the sky. "I knew it! I was sure you would be surprised when you saw the treasure site, haha... Your surprised face is really cute! If only your eyes could bulge a bit rounder, your mouth open a bit wider, and your tongue hang out, it would be perfect."
Right in front was a wasteland, on which lay a field of graves, tall and short. A rough count showed there were several hundred graves.
The treasure hideout was a graveyard; how could Gao Fei not be surprised? Anyone else would have been astonished too!
"Don't be deceived by appearances," He Hentian said with a smile. "Many things... might seem ordinary on the surface. But if you study them carefully, you'll discover many secrets. Take this graveyard, for example, it looks very ordinary and a bit eerie, but actually, there's something special beneath it."
"Something special?" Gao Fei's expression changed.
"Come on, I'll take you to see something that will open your eyes," He Hentian said as he strode forward.
Gao Fei hesitated for a moment, then followed.
He Hentian walked ten steps to the left, another ten steps, then made several circles before finally stopping in front of a grave. A tombstone stood in front of the grave, its inscriptions, worn by the elements over time, had become very vague. He Hentian reached out a finger and lightly tapped the tombstone twice.
"Crack-crack!"
The tombstone suddenly moved aside, revealing a pitch-black entrance. Bursts of Yin Wind blew out from the hole, causing the temperature around to drop several degrees.
"Would you like to go down first, or should I?" He Hentian grinned.
"Um..."
"I'll go first, you scaredy-cat." He Hentian leapt down, "Follow closely, don't get lost."
Gao Fei approached the hole and habitually activated his Clairvoyance, taking a glance down. Then he sighed. A mysterious power hidden in the darkness curbed Gao Fei's Clairvoyant eyes, preventing him from seeing clearly what was inside the hole.
Since arriving in Elysium, Gao Fei's Clairvoyance had constantly been restricted. It was truly frustrating.
Gao Fei took a deep breath and then jumped down.
Plummeting quickly, surrounded by darkness, it was about the duration of an incense stick before Gao Fei reached the bottom.
"Over here." A beam of bright light came from a distance.
Gao Fei hurried over, looking at the Bead in He Hentian's hand, "This is the Luminous Pearl, isn't it? It's quite big."
"You like it? I'll give you one later," He Hentian smiled. "Let's go! The adventure begins now! No matter how many treasures we find, we split them evenly. What do you say?"
Gao Fei shrugged, indicating he had no objections.
"Follow closely behind me, and don't wander off. This place is riddled with traps, and a single moment of negligence could lead to an irreversible disaster," He Hentian cautioned, then, holding the Luminous Pearl, he walked toward the depths of the tomb, with Gao Fei quickly following.
The air inside the tomb was somewhat damp and emitted a pungent musty odor. The ground was paved with smooth stone slabs, and the walls on both sides were darkened, with ancient characters faintly visible on them. The characters were too ancient for Gao Fei to recognize any of them.
"What exactly is this place?" Gao Fei couldn't help but ask.
"Haven't you figured it out? This is an ancient tomb!"
"Whose ancient tomb? Who is the owner of the tomb?"
"To be honest, I don't know either."
"You don't know?"
"I discovered this ancient tomb by chance. Over the years, I've searched through a lot of materials, but have yet to find any records of this tomb." He Hentian paused for a moment, "Judging by the scale of the tomb, the owner must have been no ordinary person."
"You've got quite the nerve," Gao Fei smirked. "You dare to enter without even knowing the origin of the tomb?"
"Fortune favors the bold," He Hentian laughed. "The brave are bold in their skills! If you want riches, you have to take some risks. I have a lot of confidence in my abilities. Even if I encounter danger in the tomb, I can avoid it."
"I really don't know what to say to you..."
"Then don't say anything—let's focus on hunting for treasure."
"You're sure there is treasure in here?"
"There should be," He Hentian said uncertainly. "Any tomb of a certain stature is sure to have a large number of burial goods."
"What if there isn't?"
"If there isn't, then there isn't. Consider it a sightseeing trip."
"Sightseeing? Sightseeing in an ancient tomb?" Gao Fei's nose nearly went crooked with irritation. "Are you out of your mind?"
As the two bickered, they continued deeper into the tomb, passing through a long corridor, and found a hall ahead, where they could vaguely make out some objects arranged inside.
"Haha! I told you there were treasures! You didn't believe me!" He Hentian rushed over ecstatically.
Gao Fei's expression changed: "Don't be rash, watch out for traps." As it turned out, Gao Fei's caution was unnecessary, as He Hentian made his way into the hall unobstructed and without encountering any danger. "What do you think? Found any treasure?" Gao Fei asked as he walked towards the hall.
"It was a false alarm." From inside the hall, He Hentian's frustrated voice could be heard: "These are all junk, not worth anything at all."
"Junk?"
"Do you see these swords? They are made of fine iron, very sharp, but unfortunately, they have been corroded beyond recognition. And these bottles and jars have all been damaged too. There's not a single intact item." The tomb had existed for far too long, and all the objects inside had begun to rot, especially now that He Hentian had opened the tomb's entrance, allowing the wind to speed up the deterioration of the burial goods many times over.
"Don't be discouraged, look around and see if anything's been overlooked." Gao Fei circled the hall: "Hey? There's a statue here, looks like a monkey."
"No, not a monkey, it's an ape."
"An ape?"
"Yes, monkeys are not this burly or have such large mouths. I'd bet my life on it, this is definitely an ape."
Gao Fei reached out and touched the statue, it felt sleek and cold to the touch, just like touching a piece of ice: "What is this material? It's not iron, not bronze, not jade, nor is it stone..."
"It must be some kind of material unknown to us." He Hentian suddenly threw a punch.
"Bang!"
The enormous fist struck the head of the statue, producing a dull sound.
"Huh? It didn't break?" He Hentian showed a look of surprise: "I used seventy percent of my strength with that punch, and the statue remained unscathed? Remarkable! Truly remarkable!"
